2A little bit about the area!
-The Greater Blue Mountains Area consists of
1.03 million hectares of mostly forested
landscape on a sandstone plateau 60 to 180
kilometres inland from central Sydney, New South
Wales. The property includes vast expanses of
wilderness and is equivalent in area to almost
one third of Belgium, or twice the size of
Brunei. -The property, which includes eight
protected areas in two blocks separated by a
transportation and urban development corridor, is
made up of seven outstanding national parks.
3Biggest Attraction!
- The most photographed feature in the area are the
three sisters. The legend has it that three
sisters were turned into stone by a witchdoctor
in order to protect them from harm during a
tribal battle!

9Climate
- The climate of the Blue Mountains is somewhat
cooler than the lower Sydney region. - As
uplifting air masses come into contact with the
Blue Mountains, the moisture in the air cools and
condenses. As a result, there is generally more
rain in the mountains than in Sydney.
10Best time to visit?
- More than three million people come to Blue
Mountains National Park each year. - No matter what time of year you visit the Blue
Mountains, you won't be disappointed! In summer,
the mountains offer cool relief from Sydney's
sticky heat, and although winters can be chilly,
you'll be fine as long as you pack warm clothing.
Many people enjoy 'Christmas in July' in the cozy
warmth of the mountains' many hotels and lodges.
