19th Century Reform Movements
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of
economic and social influences on historical
    issues and events.
  • Students will evaluate the impact of reform
    movements including public education, temperance,
womens rights, prison reform, and care of the
    disabled.
  • Students will demonstrate proficiency in use of
multimedia by creating a project incorporating
    text, audio, video, and graphics.

students will research and take notes on the
reform movements listed below. Each member of
the partner pair will have specific topics to

how would society be different today without this
    reform?

4
Comparison
  • To complete your presentation pick one of the
issues that you or your partner researched and
compare it to a current issue in America.
  • Is the issue still around today?
  • If not, are there similar issues today?
  • Who does this issue most effect?
  • What are people doing to combat this issue?
    (DARE, MADD, community organizations, national
    organizations, NAACP)
  • How does it compare to the tactics used in the
    1840s?
  • If you were asked to help create a plan to solve
this issue what ideas do you have? How would you
    implement that plan?
  • Your comparison should be at least a paragraph
long. Place these on slides 11 and 12 of your
presentation. Each partner must write their own
comparison. Write your name at the bottom of the
    paragraph

5
Facilitation Questions
  • What kinds of problems existed in the early 19th
century that led to the reform movements.
  • Who would have been likely to experience those
    problems?
  • How did reform movements change things?
  • Were there particular events that had a big
impact on your reform movement? When and where
    did those events occur?
  • Were there particular people who had a big impact
on your reform movement? When and where did
    those events occur?
