Regionwide Employment Study and Gap Analysis
  • Objective
  • Compile up-to-date and reliable SJV labor market
    information
  • Action
  • Survey under way of 3,000 employers across the 10
    county SJVP region in 5 targeted industry
    sectors.
  • The survey is being conducted for all occupations
    in each of the target industries and gather
    information on
  • The required skills and educational levels for
    the jobs
  • Job requirements/hiring criteria for each job
  • Projected future demand for the jobs (Current, 1
    and 3 years)
  • Copies of Job Descriptions for each job
  • Career Ladders/Lattices can then be developed for
    the local areas
  • Reports to be published in April 2008
  • Data will be used to evaluate training capacity
    for Vocational Education regionwide. Work with
    our community colleges to expand if needed.

  • Ongoing studies which will require additional
    funds need to be completed

  • To use Gap Analysis data to strategically seek
    additional funding (DOL Grant and CAA grant) and
    to expand training opportunities to meet employer
    and student need.

    examined current training availability to meet
    employers demand.

  • Address workforce supply on a regional basis

  • Work Ready Certificate a standardized system and
    associated training across the region is
    implemented
  • Certificate validates that an individual has
    certain essential skills important across a range
    of jobs, employers, job seekers, economic
    developers, and educators.

  • Funding to increase job seekers who can obtain
    certificate and outreach to employers on how they
    can use this new system in their hiring process

  • Implementation of regionwide intelligence tools

  • Two intelligence tools procured and implemented
  • Executive Pulse. An Internet accessible program
    designed to collect information about businesses
    and their present and future planning needs.
  • The WIBs Business Specialists staff now have
    access to use this program when serving local
    businesses and will begin to outreach to other
    partners
  • The Connectory. n Internet accessible program
    designed as a business to business directory to
    profile businesses and encourage local
    interaction for supply chain needs.

    Education partners to utilize this program.

  • Create a just-in-time training fund
  • Action
  • San Joaquin Valley Community College Consortium
    established 500,000 fund through use of ETP
    dollars
  • Available to businesses in the region to provide
    skills upgrade training for their employees
  • Support Requested
  • Funds to provide skill training to unemployed or
    underemployed individuals in the San Joaquin
    Valley that will assist them in securing jobs in
    high-demand, well-paying jobs in targeted
    industry clusters.
  • Amount requested is 500,000

  • Objective
  • Aligning vocational and career technical
    education with target industries
  • Action
  • Convene team of ROP leaders and other experts
    regionwide to assess existing career technical
    education, identifying gaps for meeting needs of
    target industry clusters.
  • Convened group for SB 70 funds.
  • Four, sub regional CTE Community Collaborative
    application to move forward
  • Each application requesting up to 450,000.
