- Fruit of a plant originating from Mexico and
Central America. Originally the tomato was a
round small fruit similar to the cherry tomato
which is well known today. - Indians grew it and made it known it with the
first Spanish settlers. - It has been regarded as poisonous for a long
time and until the 18th century, it was
essentially used as decorative plants. We used
to believe that it made people sick since it is
known that its leaves, his its stems and its
fruits. contain a toxic alkaloid. In the 16th

5Description of Tomato

it is seedless and is less juicy than other
tomato species. - As for common tomato, it is round and measures
between 6 and 12 cm and can weigh from 75 G to 1
kg, sometimes even more. Some varieties of
tomatoes are green even ripe but most become
red, pink, orange or yellow. - The savour of tomatoes depends on their degree of
acidity, water and sugar contents, texture of the
