What is a Chart of Accounts?

• Accounting Definition
• A listing of Accounts in a financial system
  generally using alpha numeric characters to
  designate the transactions that comprise the
  Balance Sheet and Income Statement. The Chart of
  Accounts is used as the basis for preparing
  financial reports from an accounting system.
• In End User Terms
• The numbers or references used to identify where
  your budget has been spent in relation to your
  area, your Department or
• your Grant

What are the benefits?
It allows you to track how much of your budget is
expended! It gives you accurate data about where
your budget has been spent! It is used to Code
expenses in relation to the Financial
Statements. It also provides the University
accurate tracking and reporting of the of
specific and general fund expenditures.
