In 1998 BQ merged with France's leading DIY
retailer, Castorama (Brico Depot) and they own

with the opening of the Shanghai store - BQ's
first in mainland China.

Argos the darling of the Stock Exchange, within
the parent group GUS

Here is an example of a typical catalogue page.
The Argos catalogue is issued twice a year,
containing over 11,000 lines A total print run
of 13 million copes ensures that 60 of UK
households have a copy Items can also be ordere
d on the web, by telephone, or by SMS messaging

Over 300 Stores in the UK 1.4 Bn Turnover Now o
wned by GUS, who also own Argos
Homebase has adopted a mezzanine floor principle
to increase sales areas and stock lines within
existing sites. The additional space is used to
sell furniture and home furnishings
14
Homebase has a focus on home wares and décor
products rather than traditional building supplies
Homebase prefers to compete with 10 days and
sales rather than day to day price discounting
15
Wickes mainly focus on the professional end of
the market, refurbishment and builders.
Wickes quarterly catalogue is distributed to the
store local areas.
Total number of stores 170 Sales 2003 - 1.5 Bn
16
Focus stores, provide an outlet for the softer
parts of the market.
Wickes Extra stores are a new concept and aim to
claim the middle ground (e.g. from Homebase) in
the market by introducing 1800 additional SKUs.
The Extra stores have been made possible by
investment in the logistical supply chain, in
order to provide the extra SKUs whilst minimising
stock holding
