Interesting Findings
  • School Districts do not list services provided
    for students with autism.
  • It would appear there are more fee based services
available because school districts do not list
    the services they provide.
  • The majority of private services provide Applied
    Behavior Analysis Therapy.
  • Region IV offers more services for children with
Autism because it is an urban area and serves 20
of the children in the state of Texas.

13
Conclusions
  • It is difficult to determine the quality of the
services being offered. For ABA providers a key
point would be the certification of staff
    directly administering therapy. Certification
should be checked for all therapy providers.
Even with certification, services like nutrition
therapy may not be supported by valid research.
  • Very few health providers list their services
    electronically with parent/advocacy groups or
indicate on their own website that they are
specially trained to serve individuals with
    autism or other developmental disabilities.
Considering the health implications as well as
behavior concerns involved in medical treatment,
it would seem that this is an under served area
of concern for children with ASD.
