  • California Real Estate Association formed a
    Womens Division after members founded the idea
    on a train ride home from the National
    Associations Convention in Washington D.C.

  • Men could sell real estate
  • and be paid a handsome fee.

Women were not considered professionals
  • Women sold real estate and were rewarded with a
    thanks, and a plate of cookies!

1938
  • Joseph Catherine, the President of the National
    Association of REALTORS encouraged the formation
    of the Womens Council after being impressed by
    the California group and the immense potential
    for women in real estate.

Most Local Boards Were Still Resistant to Women
  • National Association was ready to recognize
    women and this resulted in the formation of a
    women's division at the Annual Convention.
  • 37 Women from nine states formed the first WCR.

  • Womens Council of Realtors is a community of
    real estate professionals creating business
    opportunities, developing skills for the future
    and achieving our individual potential for
    success.
