  • Heel pain is an extremely common complaint, and
there are several common causes. It is important
to make an accurate diagnosis of the cause of
your symptoms so that appropriate treatment can
    be directed at the cause.

3
  • Heel pain is one of the first indicators that
something is wrong with your feet. Heel pain can
be caused by a wide variety of conditions or
injuries, how you commonly use your feet at work
or in sports, your genetics, body type, age and

The following questions can help determine the
cause of the pain
  • Heel pain is one of the first indicators that
something is wrong with your feet.
  • Do I experience pain when I move my foot or
    after?
  • If I add weight or pressure does the pain
    increase?
  • Does it change the way you walk and stop your
    ability to walk?

6
  • If you have persistent heel pain when walking or
running that is severe enough that it limits your
movement we recommend a professional consultation
from a podiatrist to determine the cause of the
pain and the best treatment options available.

7
There are four common types of heel pain
  • Heel pain during activity
  • Heel pain before after activity not affecting
    performance.
  • Heel pain before, during, after activity,
    affecting performance .
  • Heel pain so severe that performance is
    impossible.

8
Treatment Options for Heel Pain
  • Options for treatment may vary based on the
length of time and the severity of heel pain at
    the time of diagnosis.

9
  • While treatment will vary from person to person,
common treatments for heel pain are changing
shoes in combination with shoe supports and
inserts, padding and taping your foot to
alleviate pressure and pain, medication to help
control pain, and prescription or orthotic
    devices to help with mobility.

10
  • If the heel pain is caused by a specific foot
condition, the best possible treatment option for
the cause of the heel pain will be recommended in
some cases this could be foot surgery.
