Title: How to Build Tilt Up Concrete Retaining Walls
1How to Build Tilt Up Concrete Retaining Walls
Tilt-up concrete construction are panels made
flat on the ground then moved vertically to form
a wall and this is a popular method in Australia.
This type of construction helps build
warehouses, big-box stores, schools, low-rise
office buildings and even churches. The
construction gets more complex when architectural
fixtures are added such as windows, doors and
insulation. Lifting equipment is necessary in
order to carry the panels that can become quite
large depending on the construction project.

forms
Step 1 Create a casting slab usually of 2x4
wooden boards. Position the wooden side forms to
the desired length and size and apply bond
breaker in order to help lift the slab off the
cast.
Step 2 Place reinforcement, lifting and bracing
hardware, embedments, form liners, thin-brick
sections and if necessary window and door block
outs before pouring in the concrete. A typical
wall is usually 6 to 8 inches thick as concrete
has a compressive strength of 3000 psi and a
4-inch slump.
Step 3 Smooth out any imperfections from the
concrete once it settles to the cast as any
imperfections will reflect in the panel.
Step 4 Allow the concrete to dry for about 7 days
to reach the necessary strength as the mobile
crane lifts the panel in the proper place from
the rigging and braces attached. Brace and plumb
the panel but do not connect the panel to the
other panel in sequence.
2Step 5 Install roof trusses to tie each panel
together and inject grout to the concrete panels'
base then remove the braces once dry.
