READING VIEWING
Previous Slide
  • This year, my teacher has introduced some new
    activities for reading, including
  • Dust Echoes (Task Overview Video, Learning
Objective/My Task Explanation, My Work, Success
Criteria, My Reflection) are traditional oral
    dreamtime stories.
  • Budde (Unit Overview Video, Learning
Objective/My Task Explanation, My Work, Success
Criteria, My Reflection) teaches us how to be
    safe on the internet.
  • The following activities are some of our normal
activities that we have done before. However, my
teacher has adapted them to make them a bit more
    challenging. These activities include
  • Literature Circles (Video, Learning Objective/My
Task Explanation, My Work, Success Criteria, My
Reflection) has new roles Summariser, Code
    Breakers, Device Detectives, Discussion Managers
and Investigators. With the book we read in
Literature Circles, Kensukes Kingdom, we also
    undertook chapter investigations.
  • Reciprocal Reading (Learning Objective/My Task
Explanation, My Work, Success Criteria, My
Reflection) has been more advance this year. We
have had new jobs Predicator, Reading,
    Classifying, Questioning and Summarising.
  • This activity has not been adapted and has been
    the same all year round.
  • Readers Theatre (Learning Objective/My Task
Explanation, My Work, Success Criteria, My
Reflection) have been the same but with other
    scripts.

Dust Echoes My Work
Previous Slide
Learning Objective/My Task Explanation To learn
traditional dreamtime stories. In the movie of
the traditional dreamtime story I watched, The
Be, I had to answer the questions that you saw
in the video.
Success Criteria I have answered all the
questions that had to be answered and learnt
about a new traditional dreamtime story.
My Reflection Overall, I think Ive done very
well with this Dust Echoes activity. This
activity had made me think about what happened
and what things are connected to other videos.
This has been a good activity to actually watch
Dreamtime stories.

Budde My Work
Previous Slide
Learning Objective/My Task Explanation To learn
how to be safe online. In this activity, we were
asked to answer two questions from the video that
we were watching. After, we had to write down the
things that we missed in our answers.
Success Criteria I have answered all questions
and written down the things I have missed in my
answers to learn how to be safe online.
My Reflection Budde has taught me all the
safety tips to be safe online. I think its very
good to know other ways you might get bullied and
have no idea what to do. Or you could get a virus
on your computer and have no idea what to do.

Readers Theatre My Work
Previous Slide
Learning Objective/My Task Explanation To read a
script about the BFG. In this readers theatre
activity, we were asked to bunch up into a group
to play some roles in The Snatching of Sophie.
Success Criteria My group has successfully read
the script and performed it in front of each
other. After, we then swapped roles.
My Reflection This activity has made me work on
my tone of voice when playing the BFG or Sophie.
8
Reciprocal Reading My Work
Previous Slide
Learning Objective/My Task Explanation To read
an article in a group with each person having a
role. In this article, we read about how most
protagonist in video games are mostly boys. Our
activity after was to watch the story of each
Mario game to see who the protagonist was. We
then learnt that Mario was the protagonist always
saved Princess Peach, the damsel in distress.
Success Criteria My group has read, clarified,
predicted, asked questions and summarised the
article.
My Reflection This article has helped me
communicate with my group and has helped me to
stay on guard for whenever its my turn.
9
Literature Circles My Work
Previous Slide
Learning Objective/My Task Explanation To write
a summary about Kensukes Kingdom with 4
different reviews. In this activity, my partner
and I had to summarise chapter 10 of Kensukes
Kingdom using 4 different reviews A sequenced
overview, a characterisation review, a settings
review and a concluding paragraph. When everyone
in our group are finished, we then present our
roles to the group. Success Criteria My
partner and I have completed all 4 reviews and
shared the work with my group.
My Reflection I think I did really doing the
summariser role. This role looked hard first when
it wasnt really.

WRITING
Previous Slide
  • In Semester 1, we have been learning about 3 big
    writing units. These include
  • Recounts (Task Overview Video, Learning
Objective/My Task Explanation, My Work, Success
Criteria, My Reflection) with my teachers
    planner.
  • Persuasive texts (Task Overview Video, Learning
Objective/My Task Explanation, My Work, Success
Criteria, My Reflection) about everyday problems.
my teacher tested us by making us read and write
a persuasive text about Tree Octopus. Later we
found out that the website was fake and that we
always have to check for two resources on the
    internet.
  • Balanced arguments (Task Overview Video,
Learning Objective/My Task Explanation, My Work,
Success Criteria, My Reflection), where we had to
find reasons why we support the both sides.
  • In Semester 2, we looked at
  • Narrative - Fantasy (Task Overview Video,
Learning Objective/My Task Explanation, My Work
    (First Draft/eBook), Success Criteria, My
Reflection), where we had to use my teachers
planner, that took weeks to plan then we got to
write the narrative in 6 parts.
  • Poetry - My poem, Younger Cousins (Recital
    Removed for privacy reasons, Learning
Objective/My Task Explanation, My Work, Success
Criteria, My Reflection), is about my real
cousins and how much they mean to me.
  • Two of our homework tasks has been to write an
autobiography about our self and a biography
    about someone we care about.
  • Autobiographies (Learning Objective/My Task
Explanation, My Work, Success Criteria, My
    Reflection)
  • Biographies (Learning Objective/My Task
Explanation, My Work, Success Criteria, My
    Reflection) .

11
Recount My Work
Previous Slide
Learning Objective/My Task Explanation To write
a recount about our Easter holidays. In this
activity, we were asked to write a recount about
our Easter holidays using a planner given to us
by my teacher. We were then asked to highlight
everything we brainstormed on our planner that
was featured in the recount. Success
Criteria I have completed my recount, edited
with myself, a friend and the teacher.
My Reflection I think I did really well. I think
I have really improved since the last time Ive
done a recount.
12
Persuasive Text My Work
Previous Slide
Learning Objective/My Task Explanation To write
a persuasive text about students having valid
information by the school captain. In this
writing activity, Ned and I had to write a
persuasive text about student having valid
sources at all times after we learnt that some
websites are internet fake (e.g. The tree
octopi). Success Criteria My partner and I
have completed the text, highlighted the adverbs,
the definite and less definite words.
My Reflection I think we did very well on this
text. It has a point about everyone having two
sources at all times. It has an explanation and
an example of why we should have two sources.
13
Balanced Argument My Work
Previous Slide
Learning Objective/My Task Explanation To write
a balanced argument about sailing around the
world or school education. In this writing
activity, we were asked to write a balanced
argument about sailing around the world or school
education. We had got this idea from the book we
were reading in literature circles, Kensukes
Kingdom. We also had to use some openers that my
teacher made up. Success Criteria I have used
my teachers openers and have written the
balanced argument, using a blue pen as sailing
around the world isnt a good idea and black that
is a good idea.
My Reflection I think I did very well on my
first balanced argument of the year. Ive
improved my work and I think I have used this
technique to make my persuasive text better.
14
Fantasy Narrative My Work - eBook
Previous Slide
Learning Objective/My Task Explanation To type
your narrative in a Word document so you can copy
and paste the work into a eBook creator app. In
this activity, we were asked to type our
narrative at home so we could create the eBook at
school.
Success Criteria I have typed the narrative up
and pasted it in a eBook creator. Then I have
searched up pictures to put in.
My Reflection I think I have done a great job on
writing and presenting my narrative.

much they mean to me.

18
Poem My Work
Previous Slide
Learning Objective/My Task Explanation To write
a poem about something using techniques we
learnt. Then we had to present our poems. In
this activity, we had to write a poem using
techniques we learnt during our lessons. We then
had to present our poem.

Success Criteria I have written a poem and
presented it using A3 paper and photos of my
actual cousins. As I was absent I did not get a
chance to film my reflection or create QR codes
to allow people with an app to view videos of my
recital and reflection.
My Reflection I have really enjoyed this unit of
poetry. I have learnt a lot and it could give me
a boost in high school.

Learning Objective/My Task Explanation To use a
360 protractor to measure both, the internal and
external of an angle. In this activity, we were
asked to draw angles and measure them, both
internal and external. The internal and external
measurements both had to equal 360. We also had
to use a 360 protractor.
Success Criteria I have made angles and measure
with a 360 to make sure both angles, internal
and external equal 360. My Reflection Overall
, this activity challenged me to use my skills
with the 180 protractor to use the 360. This
has also challenged me to measure the angles so
it equals 360.

STUDENT COMMENT SEMESTER ONE
Previous Slide
This semester was great! I think I did a great
effort on the work we have been doing. Lots of
things have been happening this semester and Im
glad I got to do it all! This semester was brand
new to me. Well, mostly everything! Without using
all the technology, I wouldnt have learnt some
of the Traditional Oral Stories in Reading. I
also wouldnt have learnt stuff on being safe on
the internet. Writing was fantastic as well! Now
with all the planning Ive been doing, I can now
write a detailed recount! Im learning how to
write a good fantasy narrative and an
autobiography now. One thing I have to improve
though would be to speak slower next time I read
in front of the class. Other than that, I think
my listening is fine. In Mathematics, the first
thing we did was collecting and presenting data.
We helped improved the school a lot. One of the
things we chose to do was putting a recycle bin
in the staffroom. For a whole day, we created a
Rich Assessment Task at school using seven
different graphs-bar graph, column graph, side by
side graph, pictograph, dot plot, the most
efficient graph and Microsoft Excel graph. After
that, we went onto angles. One of the first
things we learnt about was how to use 180
protractors. Once everyone got the hang of it, we
started using 360 protractors. We ended angles
after we looked at angles in shapes. In my
opinion, I would say number was the fun one! We
started number off by doing division-long and
short. We solved the division equation by using
the bus stop.

STUDENT COMMENT SEMESTER ONE
Previous Slide
Our Integrated unit was on Australias history
before 1901. My knowledge at the start of the
year about Australias past was terrible! Now, I
know at least 5x as much as I did at the start of
the year. My Rich Assessment Task was about
Captain Arthur Phillip. Captain Arthur Phillip
led the First Fleet to Australia. There was a lot
happening at that time and Im happy I found
out! We have been doing Sacred Stories in
Religion. We have also been talking about the
Gospel-Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. We learnt
about how some of the books, like the first 5
books in the Old Testament are the same stories
others Religions believe in. Being a School
Captain this year has really boosted my
confidence. In prep, I would think that I would
never become a School Captain. Though, Im here
now leading the school. Visual Art is just
normal art that we have been doing since prep.
For only one term we have been doing. Even though
we had to push our limits and finish any of our
art work quickly, though properly, it was worth
it! Performing Arts, how fun was that?!
Performing Arts was the time when you could
practice your acting skill. It was also the time
we experienced what is was like doing a play on
the Gold Rush in front of lots of people. Though,
we couldnt have done it without our director.

Italian was interesting. We looked at colours,
food, autumn, Winter, numbers and days. Seeing
and exploring the Italian culture was good. The
best things would be playing bocce and Italian
bingo. Also, we always have a video if you finish
your work every lesson! So Im looking forward to
Italian Day! Physical Education is awesome!
Weve been training for Cross Country, football
and netball. Also, if we dont have anything,
free sport time! The technology we use in the
classroom is amazing! Now that weve got new
computers, we can improve our computer
skills. This semester, I think my behavior was
good. I tried my best and look where Im now!

  • Semester two was great! I think I put in a
humongous effort with all my work. This semester
has also been a very busy semester.
  • In Reading, we continued to learn about
traditional dreamtime stories and how to be safe
online. We also undertook new partners for our
literature circle groups. My new partner and I
were involved in at least five chapters of
Kensukes Kingdom by Michael Murporgo. We also
had book week, which was fun! We got put into
groups and participated in all the activities
    that the teachers had organised.
  • In Writing, we started to learn about fantasy
narratives. We did a few weeks of planning until
we actually got to write one that had at least
    seven paragraphs an orientation, a build-up, a
problem, the reaction/more events, a solution and
a conclusion. After that, we had to get our
narrative into a script and a comic. Our other
big unit in writing has been poetry. We all
learnt techniques and how to write a poem. My
first poem was called, Younger Cousins which is
about my younger cousins. We all had to write two
poems to have on display. We also had to have two
QR Codes, one with us reciting it and one with a
    reflection.
  • I think my Speaking has improved since semester
one. I now can speak louder than my normal tone
of voice. My listening has slightly improved. The
thing I wanted to improve last time was to speak
slower in front of the class and that has
    definitely improved.

  • In Maths, one of our big units has been chance.
In chance, we looked at the probability of some
things that has happened. We also looked at the
    theoretical and experimental outcomes. Ive
developed my knowledge on how to get the answer
    as a word, a fraction, a decimal and a
    percentage.
  • In fractions, I strengthened my knowledge on
drawing fractions using addition and subtraction.
We also drew number lines to help us use addition
and subtraction. After, we had to make number
lines to plot fractions and decimals on them.
  • In location, we have examined our knowledge of
    features on a map a scale, a key/legend, a
compass and an alpha-numeric grid. One of
activities was to make a map of an island that
had to include the features we learnt. After, we
had to make up five questions about distance, two
questions about the alpha-numeric grid, and two
questions about where something is. Later, my
teacher pulled out the year sixes to do some
    extended learning.
  • In Religious Education this semester, our topic
was prayer. In class, we talked about prayers and
who prays. We also heard a song called Pray by
Justin Bieber. Another thing we learnt was about
    Social Justice.

  • In Inquiry, we have been looking at plants, our
environment and how they have adapted to survive.
After we finished that, we got into groups and
picked a fruit to experiment on. My group was
Yonata, Jasper, Patrick and I. We cut our fruit,
the tomato, into half, measured the temperature
and weight then recorded it on GoogleDocs. My RAT
that I have researched on is about the adaptions
of plants and Im presenting it as a blog.
  • One of our sporting days was going to Hoop Time,
which was sponsored by McDonalds. I supported the
Future Stars team because I couldnt play. I
occasionally went over to watch the two Rookies
team. All three teams went very well and the
Future Stars won their grand final!
  • At least I got to actually participate in the our
athletics day. I was looking forward for this day
as it was my last one and it was the day before I
left to Hong Kong. I participated in all events
and thought I did very well. All teams went
brilliant but the green team came first at the
    end. GO GREEN!
  •
  • In Art, our main focus has been to create the
first letter of our name in 3D. We then had to
type at 20 memories of each year of school and
    grab some photos as well.

  • In Italian, we have been looking at Spring,
Summer and the weather. I have learnt a lot this
semester and Im glad. Italian would be very
    useful when I grow older.
  • Our excursions to CERES was the only one this
semester. At CERES, we got to go fishing using
nets. One of our other activities was to make
recycled paper. Our last activity was a race
against the grade fives to see who can put the
rubbish in the right bin. Sadly, we lost.
  •
  • Camp was really fun! The grade fives and sixes
were joined by St Joseph Year Fives and Sixes.
This camp was an opportunity to meet new friends
who might be going to the same high school as
you. We went to Camp Weekaway.
  • One of our first incursions was when Brian
Nankervis came. He shared with us some jokes,
some poems and his character, Raymond J
Bartholomew. We then shared some of our poems
    and joke with him.

Our second incursion was when St Josephs came
here for a fun day. We went down to the park
where we could choose to play different
activities including tennis, basketball, cricket
and footy. Our recent incursion was when Peter
Kearney came to help us with our carols night. He
taught the seniors two children how to play
different instruments for particular songs. I got
to play instruments on four songs. It was good to
do something different for carols.   In ICT this
semester, we have taken our interactive
ePorfolios to the next level. We have used iPad
applications to help us with our ePortfolios. One
of these applications include Doceri. On Doceri,
you can connect to the computer which allows you
to take over. In term 4, we have launched a
seniors 2 blog, which we can use to hand in our
homework. One of our homework activities was to
write a biography on someone we care about and an
autobiography on ourselves. We then had to copy
and paste it into an application that can make
iBooks. Being a school captain has been a great
experience. Leading the school has been a great
honour for me. I never would have thought I would
make in this far. Next year will be a great
challenge for me. Though, I think I will have a
bit of a head start on work that wasnt even in
the year six curriculum.

I think I went very well with my portfolio. The
use of other technology was unbelievable! All the
techniques I used this year I will use next year
for projects. I think the grand total of 22
really suited my portfolio because my dot point
knowledge wasnt very good. My font theme changed
throughout the portfolio due to the things on
each slide.
