1A short history of chairs
2From the earliest time itself the use chairs are
seen. People used to make chairs from rocks. And
after that they turned to the woods. Wood chairs
were easier to make than chairs from the rock.
After that, people started to discover new
designs for chairs. Now we can see many different
types of chairs available in the market. There
are wooden chairs, plastic chairs, chairs made
with iron rods, etc.
3In the beginning (Before 3000bc)
The earliest chairs were basic ones. Benches,

These are considered as the best seat of a house

5Greek and roman chairs (700bc)
Both the Greek and Roman chairs were typically
made of wool or ivory with elegant curves. This
Roman chair was traditionally veneered with
ivory, with curved legs forming a wide X. These
chairs had no back and lower arms.
6Gothic chairs (12th to 14th century)
These are made under the Gothic period, chairs
were typically made with oak, walnut, rosewood
and heavy woods. The elegant forms were designed
to rebound church architecture.
7Renaissance chairs... (14th to 16th century)
These chair's construction started in Italy, the
style was perfected in France. Renaissance chairs
are characterized by ornate carvings on their
arms and legs. These chairs are made using brass,
silver and gold to colour for elegance over
wooden tones.
8English chairs (18th 19th century)
These chairs are heavily influenced by Thomas
Chippendale. They were incorporated with dark
woods from gothic chairs, combined with elaborate
patterns influenced by Renaissance styles. These
chairs are made with oak, walnut, rosewood and
heavy woods.
920th Century chairs
In the 20th century, many new model chairs have
been introduced, chairs with many features.
Material and aesthetic changes took hold as Art
Deco styles became popular. Geometric designs and
metallic colours were experimented with.
10Modern chairs
Modern chairs are equipped with ultra modernist
chic and minimalist forms. Earthly materials take
a back seat in favor of man-made resources such
