Title: Evaluation question 4

1
How did you use new media technologies in the
construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
  • Evaluation Question 4

2
Internet
  • We used the internet to gather information such
as historical facts to modern economical
statistics. We recorded these in our research
record with a bibliography of links showing where
we gained this information on the internet.

3
Blogger
  • The first technology we used was blogger, we set
up our blogs to be on output for our coursework
thought the duration of the course. This proved
to help us in our planning as I had access to all
my research and planning in one area which I
could easily access whilst working on the
documentary. It also added organisation to my
work as all individual work was in one area.

4
Google Drive
  • Google drive allowed me and my group to upload
our work in an area which was accessible to all
of us wherever we wanted which combated the
problem of the production and most of the
coursework being done on one computer due to
storage space. This was helpful to us in many
ways as we created a group account which we could
    access from any computer.

5
Prezi
  • I used the presentation tool prezi in order to
add versatility to my work in the evaluation
stage in order to use as many technologies as
possible. This is a technology which gives more
possibilities for my works presentation as it
differs from presentation tools such as
    powerpoint.

6
Youtube
  • We used youtube to review other documentaries in
order to draw codes and conventions for our
research and planning. We looked at documentaries
such as The Music Biz and The Devil Made Me Do It
in order to gain an insight to documentary codes
and conventions. We also used youtube to gain
archive footage for our documentary so we could
show the audience footage which we werent able
to apprehend. We also used youtube to find our
song which was a reoccurring theme of our
documentary. We used another technology which was
youtube to mp3/4 converters to get our
    footage/audio onto our documentary.

7
Slideshare
  • I used slideshare for many reasons, one of which
was to add more types of presentation tools to
add versatility to my research and planning. I
specifically used slideshare because of its easy
to use nature and the fact that it is a widely
used presentation tool which allows me to
showcase the different technologies available on
    the internet.

8
Scribd
  • I used scribd as a presentation tool to add
versatility to my works presentation, as the more
technologies used I felt it bettered my works
appearance as it demonstrates my knowledge of the
    internet and its presentation tools.

9
Tagul
  • We used tagul for our brainstorm as it offered a
creative alternative to just using a list. It
offered us different avenues which were more
creative to present my work. I used tagul mainly
for brainstorming parts of my coursework.

10
Eval and go
  • I used eval and go as a method to get my
questionnaire out to people, as opposed to
handing out physical copies, I utilised the
ability to put the questionnaire on the internet
which demonstrates knowledge and understanding of
the capabilities of the internet. To get my
questionnaire to people I used social medias such
as Twitter and Facebook to my advantage and
posted the questionnaire on these social medias
for the questionnaire to have a wider range of
    people to answer my questionnaire.

11
Photoshop
  • We used photoshop to produce our still advert and
edit images. This is a technology we used to
produce a high quality image and took advantage
of photoshops in depth features in order to alter
our photo to a professional standard. We used
many features of photoshop such as the cut out
tool to merge the two images together. Although
we encountered problems where the cut out tool
gave the image a jagged look, we overcame this
problem by using the blur tool to soften the
outlines and blend in with the background.

12
Adobe Premier
  • We used Adobe premier for the bulk of our work as
we created the documentary using this software.
We used the technology to cut interviews into
segments, add graphics, add audio such as
voiceovers and music, add archive footage, and so
on. We used the audio mixer to balance the audio
and tidy up any auditory problems we encountered
during the recordings. We also used effects such
as fades between audio to create cohesion between
the audio tracks. We were also able to set
different layers of audio where the voiceover was
more prevalent over the music. We used premier to
add graphic such as lower thirds titling and to
add the name of the documentary of the opening
    sequence.

13
Microsoft word
  • We used Microsoft word to create our coursework
before putting it into a presentation tool such
as scribd. We planned the initial plan,
brainstorm of content and other pieces of
coursework on Word to then process through a
presentation tool as I felt comfortable with Word
and had previous knowledge of features which
    would make my work easier.

14
SLR Camera Sony Camera
  • We used the different types of cameras to record
interviews, voxpops and take still pictures for
our still advert. We used these cameras because
they are high quality cameras which adds the
professional element to our work. The video
camera was almost always used with the tripod to
add stability to the shot so our recording was
    not unprofessional.

15
Sound
  • Microphone We used the microphone with the Sony
camera in order to get the audio to the highest
possible quality in the interviews in order to
follow codes and conventions of documentaries to
make our documentary as professional as possible.
We pinned the microphone on the interviewee out
of sight to pick up audio straight from the
interviewee rather than using the boom.
  • Radio Room We used the radio room to record our
voiceover as this provided us with the highest
quality of sound with no background noise. This
was essential in our production as it provided us
with professional quality sound. I used the
software audacity to record the voiceover as it
offered an easily usable interface which I could
    operate easily.

16
VLC Media
  • We used VLC media to view our recordings of the
interviews, voxpops and cutaways. We used this
often as it was an essential tool for logging the
videos we recorded to keep track of the footage
we obtained throughout the process of gaining
    footage.
