How Many Times a Day Should I Brush My Teeth?
2
  • The importance of oral health is often overlooked
in the medical community, and keeping your teeth
clean on a consistent basis is the first step to
good oral hygiene. With that said, many people
are still unsure how many times a day they should
    brush their teeth.

3
  • In todays blog, we will take a look at how many
times a day dentists recommend you clean your
teeth, and a few common mistakes made along the
    way.

4
How Often is Enough?
  • Brushing your teeth daily is essential to good
oral hygiene, but how many times per day is best?
According to most dentists, three times per day
is the perfect number of brushes to keep your
    teeth sparkling and healthy.

5
  • Although many agree that twice a day is
sufficient for adequate oral health, brushing
three times a day ensures any mid-day snacks and
drinks are washed away before wreaking havoc on
    your enamel.

6
  • Keep in mind that brushing too often can actually
do more harm than good. Surprisingly, brushing
more than three times a day has been known to
deteriorate enamel and aid in the forming of
    cavities.

7
  • Instead of over-brushing, practice good brushing
habits each time you clean your teeth, such as
brushing for a full two minutes and flossing each
time. While cleaning your teeth, be sure to use a
soft-bristled toothbrush, and use a light hand to
guide it across your teeth applying too much
pressure while you brush can result in enamel
    loss.

  • When brushing, use short brush strokes in a back
and forth motion to clean the out and inside
areas of your teeth, including the chewing
surfaces. Cleaning your teeth in a vertical
fashion will help eliminate food from
accumulating between your teeth, however this
should never be substituted for good flossing
    habits.

10
  • If you notice you are unable to clear the plaque
from between your teeth with regular flossing and
brushing, speak to your dentist about increasing
the frequency of your professional cleanings.

11
Additional Good Habits
  • Although maintaining good brushing habits is the
first part of oral health, visiting the dentist
often is also essential. Without a dentist,
individuals are unaware of any underlying oral
problems that may be affecting their teeth,
regardless of their good brushing habits.

  • A dentist will check your teeth and gums for
signs of decay or disease, and will recommend
more or less brushing as a result. Furthermore,
replacing your toothbrush on a regular basis is
also helpful in maintaining good oral health. You
may also place your toothbrush on the utensil
holder of your dishwasher for cleansing, just
    like your knife and fork.

14
  • Brushing your teeth at least twice a day should
be a high priority if you plan to maintain good
    oral health.

15
  • To see true results, however, dentists recommend
three brushings every day, while flossing each
time you brush. However, keep in mind that
brushing any more than three times a day can
actually harm your overall oral health by
reducing the amount of enamel on your teeth,
    which leads to decay.

16
  • Regardless of how diligent you are at brushing,
visiting your dentist at least twice a year for a
professional cleaning and thorough checkup is
highly recommended. Remember just brush the
    teeth youd like to keep!!
