Title: Evaluation Q1
1In what ways does your media product use, develop
or challenge forms and conventions of real media
products
2Conventions of filmmaking
- Editing In our film we use insert cuts, for
example, the car ignition. This acts as a match
on action and avoids missing minor details in our
film. In places, our editing is very fast paced
to add tension to the more spooky parts of our
film. Moreover, the second half of our film
(post-crash) is in black and white, this shows a
clear contrast in the two halves of our film and
creates curiosity for the audience. - Cinematography We used a plethora of shots to
achieve a higher grade for example, extreme
close ups, tracking, low angled shots etc this
adds to the professionalism of our film and makes
it easier to watch. - Mise en scene and sound The first half of our
film we used a lot of high key lighting which
challenges the typical conventions of a
psychological thriller. However, in the second
half of the film we used low key lighting and had
it in black and white, thi sis much more
conventional and adds to the tension of our genre.
3Short Film Narrative
- Our film was heavily based around the dangers of
drink driving, this was a clear message that we
wanted to get to our audience. Moreover, as our
audience is teenagers, we wanted them to
understand the dangers of peer pressure, this is
a theory that is heavily applied in our film. In
addition to this, we included a twist-ending,
this was crucial two our plot and allowed us to
foreshadow the ending throughout the film.
4Genre
- Throughout our film we use foreshadowing in the
dialogue to hint at the events that will unfold,
this is a typical convention seen in a
psychological thriller - Enigma code Car Crash, this draws the audience
in and makes them wonder what the car crash has
caused - Action codes Mysterious waking up of Olivia,
people already creepily sat on the bed. 4 cups of
tea scene where the other 3 disappear. Contrast
to typical conventions - We only had this after the car crash event had
occurred. Whereas, a typical convention in a
psychological thriller would be to have a dark
setting and mood from the start. We avoided this
as we wanted the audience to see a clear contrast
before and after the car crash, to show that
something unnerving has occurred
