Title: VV Mineral Vaikundarajan Denies Involvement In Illegal Sand Beach Mining Activities
1VV Mineral Vaikundarajan Denies Involvement In
Illegal Sand Beach Mining Activities
2As per Mines and Minerals Act of 1957, the
beaches of Orissa Sand Complex, Manavalakurichi
in Kanyakumari District of Tamil Nadu, have been
identified as the main monazite bearing area in
India.

3Over 2.1 million tons of monazite is said to have
been processed from the beaches of India since
2014. VV Minerals India has been largely accused
of illegal mining in the area without any
substantial evidence. The founder of the company,
S Vaikundarajan, stated that the company has
operated within the legal boundaries and has not
engagement in illegal beach mining.

4A committee was setup to investigate the matter.
However, the locals have shown little faith in
the CBI enquiry committee. District collector
Ashish Kumar, one of the members looking into the
matter, received transfer orders in the midst of
investigation. Much of this was linked to the
political influence of Vaikundarajan without any
supporting proof.

5Several other accusations of illegal sand beach
mining have been made against the national award
winning company. Vaikundarajan, who set up the
business in late 90s, has denied any illegal
activities on the companys part. Furthermore, he
has expressed his support for the investigating
team and assured that the results will be in
favor of the company.
