  marriage. The first name is usually find out

  the last name comes from the husbands last name.

Bride Marrying a Tree

• In this Indian wedding tradition, the bride is
  made to marry a tree or a dog. Now this might
  look crazy but as per Hindu traditions this is
  done to avoid early death of the husband. The
  bride marries a tree or a dog to avoid effects of
  any curse on her husband. Indians strongly
  believe in astrology and hence even wedding date
  is determined in accordance with the position of
  the stars.

Brides Mother Banned from the Wedding

• As strange this might sound to you, in a few
  Indian weddings, the mother of the bride is not
  allowed in the wedding. This is because of the
  belief that the mother witnessing the wedding can
  have harmful effect on the bride.
