Title: INTRAVENOUS TREATMENT
1INTRAVENOUS TREATMENT Modern world is the world
of challenges, risks, development, and
approaches. When the concern is about the
treatment of severe and life threatening
diseases, the first priority is to go
towards the route of treatment which should
be fast enough to produce fast onset of
action. Intravenous (IV) treatment and route
of administration is considered as the
fastest route to be used when the condition
is life threatening and it is essential
to deliver the fluid and medicines directly
into the bloodstream throughout the body. IV
treatment is the way of treatment that uses
infusions and drips to be injected in the vein.
At present, there are many diseases for which
intravenous treatments are preferred for
getting rapid actions and onsets, to
maintain the constant levels of medicines
in the blood for getting a smooth and steady
response. IV treatments are being used for
the treatment of cancers, as chemotherapy
forvarious types of cancers is being given
through IV route. Protracted venous
infusion, also called as ambulant infusionis
being used in oncology for treatment. It is about
the free movements to walk and go while having
and wearing the small chemotherapy bags.
Moreover, for long-term treatments, the
patient has to be hospitalized and admitted
for days or weeks to get the treatment
properly and under trained staff. IV
treatments are also used for the treatment of
autoimmune disorders. It may be a good choice to
give chemotherapy for autoimmune
disorders through IV route due to
toxicity of the chemotherapeutics.
Sometimes, when the patient gets stabilized by the
IV route, he/she is shifted to the oral route for
continuing medications. However, when it is about
most of the biotherapy used for autoimmune
disorders treatment as well as to achieve
remission, IV route is the most preferred
route. Biotherapies must be given intravenously
due to their large molecules. IV iron
supplementation is the favourable route to
address imbalance in the levels of iron in human
blood. Currently, iron therapy is being given
through the IV route as the bioavailability of
the oral iron does not sufficiently and
beneficially meet the needs asdoes by
IV administration. For Iron
supplementation, IV treatment is beneficial
to meet the iron needs.Iron therapy is
essential in different types of anaemia and
IV route is prioritised as oral
administration causes many of the adverse
drugs reaction and associated complications. It
is also used for pregnant women having low
haemoglobin and haematocrit levels to acquire the
desired level.Iron therapy is also given through
IV route to chronic kidney disease patientswith
anaemia. Taking into account the merits of IV
treatments, the consequences of the IV route of
administration cannot be neglected. The
increasing incidences due to administration via
IV routes are recorded on daily basis and
proven by research. Therefore,precautions must
be concerned when administering through IV
route. VI administration must be
practiced by recommendation of the
medical practitioners and only trained and
skilled staff should inject the drips and
infusions to patients as per standard
protocols. Articles Source http//healthexcellen
