Exogenous latent variables
4
  • Exogenous latent variables (or) Independent
    variables
  • They cause fluctuations in the values of other
    latent variables in the model.
  • Changes in the values of exogenous variables are
    not explained by the model.
  • Examples External factors (Gender, Age and
    Socioeconomic status) to the model.

5
Endogenous latent variables
5
  • Endogenous latent variables (or) Dependent
    variables
  • Endogenous variables are influenced by the
exogenous variables in the model, either directly
    or indirectly.
  • Fluctuation in the values of endogenous variables
is said to be explained by the model.
  • All latent variables that influence them are
    included in the model specification.
  • Examples In a study to determine whether how
long a student sleeps affects test scores, the
independent variable is length of time spent
sleeping while the dependent variable is the test
    score.
