Title: What Are The Characteristics Of Aluminium And Its Uses

1
What Are The Characteristics Of Aluminium And Its
Uses?
2
Aluminium wiring is soft, silvery-white,
nonmagnetic metal. After oxygen and silicon, it
is one of the most plentiful elements on Earth
taking up to 8 of space in its crust. Aluminium
is a low density metal and is therefore able to
resist corrosion via passivation.
3
Aluminium is one of the most frequently used
non-ferrous metals. Global production of this
metal reached 31.9 million tonnes in 2005.
As a metal, aluminium is very soft. Therefore it
is often alloyed to improve its properties. The
most commonly used alloying agents are zinc,
copper, silicon, manganese and magnesium.
Aluminium and its many alloys play a vital role
in the building, transportation and aerospace
industries.
4
  • Aluminium wiring is a product of this metal. It
is an excellent conductor of electricity. Its use
was popularized in the late 1880s when power
transmission lines and power distribution systems
    were being built.
  • During the 1910s, North America experienced a
boom in housing construction which consequently
caused spikes in copper prices. As a result, the
manufacturing of aluminium building wiring from
    aluminium alloys became hugely popular.
  • Even today, copper is roughly three times more
    expensive as aluminium.

5
Although aluminium wires require a bigger wire
gauge than copper wiring, it is still capable of
carrying the same current or load. Aluminium
alloys have a 30.5 density of copper and are 61
conductive. Due to its weight and cost
advantages, aluminium wiring is still the
preferred choice in material for distribution
applications and power transmission. It is also
frequently used in setting up electrical wiring
for residential construction.
6
Apart from being used in electrical applications,
aluminium wiring is also used in the
following Transportation, i.e. trucks
marine vessels, aircrafts and automobiles
Super Purity Aluminium wires are used to
manufacture CDs, electronics and cabling
Guitar resonators and electric guitar speakers
Packaging foods Household items such as
watches, cooking utensils, implements, etc.
Manufacturing explosives, pyrotechnics and rocket
fuels Components in electronic appliances,
CPUs and transistors
