  • Living off campus can be a new and exiting
experience. It can also be frightening and
    frustrating. However, off-campus living is
designed to make your college experience easier
and fuller. In fact, its the first real step
towards adulthood and independence. A life full
of responsibilities, however could make you turn
tail and move back on campus or into your
parents house. Fortunately, there are some tips
that can prevent a rental failure. Below are four
tips that could help you survive off-campus life.

4
Learn to Cook, Clean and Shop for Groceries
  • One of the biggest complaints about dorms is
that theres no kitchen or area for cooking. Of
course, this all changes when you move into
    Durham College off-campus housing. Student
apartments are always outfitted with kitchen
areas. This means you can prepare your own meals.
Preparing your own meals can help you save money
and remain healthy. However, you cant prepare a
meal without ingredients. So, youll have to
    learn how to grocery shop.

5
  • To begin your grocery shopping education,
start by asking your parents for help and advice.
If youre not a wiz in the kitchen, then also ask
for simple recipes and help with preparing simple
meals. Although all this grocery shopping and
cooking can be exciting, remember to keep your
kitchen and the rest of your apartment clean. A
clean environment is more conducive to successful
studying and completion of assignments. Besides,
it can also prevent or reduce stress and make it
easier for you to complete some of your other
    tasks.

Document the State of Your Apartment and
Interactions with the Landlord
  • Of course, landlords are tantamount to the
    operation of an apartment community.
Communicating with this landlord from time to
time is a requirement for successful apartment
living. During these communications, you might
renegotiate your rental payment and/or due date
    or make some other agreements.

7
  • Whatever you agree to or sign, remember to
document everything. Only renegotiate the terms
of your residency if its documented on paper,
read the finer points of any agreement you sign
and get a detailed rental receipt and receipt for
    your security deposit.

8
  • Additionally, document the state of your
apartment when you move in. This means taking
photos of the conditions of the appliances,
furniture and features in every room. Also take
photos of any damage that existed before you
moved in. This will help secure your security
deposit. Of course, you wont have to worry about
these things if you search for the best rooms for
rent Oshawa has to offer, like the rooms found at
Village Suites Oshawa. If youre in need of
housing that offers affordability, flexibility, a
range of amenities and a prime location, give
    Village Suites Oshawa a call.

Decorate Your Space
  • Most student apartments are furnished,
meaning your apartment is already furnished
before you move in. Moving into a furnished
apartment can feel uncomfortable and just not
like home. However, most landlords in student
housing communities give their tenants the room
to decorate their space as they like. Take
    advantage of this opportunity.

10
  • If you can paint, paint the rooms in colours
you like. Fill the space with personal items,
    including personal photos and decorations.
Additionally, buy some curtains, put down some
area rugs, and make the space your own. Once
youve finished decorating, it should feel like
    home.
