Title: Here’s what parents should do during exams

1
Heres what parents should do during exams?
2
  • Fear, dedication, nervousness, confidence and the
list is endless, your children are experiencing
one or more of these things if its the exam
time. Apart from managing their emotions and
keeping them away from stress, you also have some
other duties towards your childs exam
preparations. A childs journey of exams needs
parents support more than you realize. You
should give serious thought to what parents
should do during exams to help their child in the
most effective way possible. Because it takes
more than just studying to get good marks and
learn important lessons of life while doing it.

Heres what parents should do during exams
4
Know everything about the course
  • If your child is weak on any topic or any
subject, he/she would not tell you about it when
its exam time. As a result, that particular area
will get neglected and you might fail to identify
your childs weak spot until its too late. If
you know everything that is there in the course,
you can then guide your children better, and make
sure nothing gets left out. This is what parents
should do during exams, and even before/after
exams to ensure timely completion of course

5
Devise a study plan for the entire exam season
  • Every student has his/her favorite subject. If
you dont pay attention, they might end up
studying what they like, and not what they are
weak at. They will revise things they have
already mastered several times. This happens
because they are afraid of studying what isnt as
clear to them as the other topics are. This could
negatively impact their performance in exams. It
could also lead to an even bigger problem in
future. After 1 or 2 years, they wont be able to
understand advanced topics because their basics
werent cleared in the past. It is your duty to
carefully devise such a study plan that balances
strong and weak topics, with enough revisions.

6
Prepare their things to carry in advance
  • While almost every parent is already doing that,
still it is worth mentioning. Last moment things
dont really play well to your advantage. Pencil
box, with scales, compass, and other small but
crucial things should be prepared the night
before exams and not hours before exams. It has
happened to me recently. I was supposed to submit
a passport photo in the exam hall, the same one
which I uploaded on the website while applying
for the exam. I was under the impression that I
had that photo in my wallet, but I didnt and
came to know about it only hours before the exam.
We had to search the whole house for that exact
same photo, I did find it, but it ruined my exam
mode. Instead of feeling confident, I was feeling
    worried and scared.

7
Dont let them take any test the day before exams
  •  A day before the exams is only meant for
revision, not tests. Tests are meant to find
shortcomings and work to eliminate them. Your
child should not find any shortcomings he cant
afford to eliminate due to lack of time. Those
shortcomings will only negatively impact the exam
performance as the child will enter the hall with
    nervousness

8
Give them at least 7 to 8-hour sleep
  • Not just for the night before exams, but for
every night. Your child should be sleeping for at
least 7-8 hours. I have also mentioned this in
5 ways to keep your child stress-free during
exams. A good nights sleep will lower the stress
hormone (cortisol) and bring up the feel-good
hormone (serotonin). Also, the human brain saves
the information to a more permanent location and
free up space for new information during sleep.
With enough sleep, the child will perform at his
maximum potential, be it studies or exams. This
is what parents should do during exams, and even
before/after exams so that the brain works
    efficiently and effectively.
