Arlo has been successfully closed from the parent
company Netgear, it has chosen this moment to
expand its portfolio of smart security cameras
with its first smart security light. We are
impressed with Arlo Q and Arlo Pro 2, so one step
in light looks like a very logical progression.

Design and Build
The security light is nearly double the size of
the Arlo Pro 2 cameras, but we will still
describe them as compact and the design is
aesthetically similar. Smooth white plastic looks
smart and it is waterproof for IP65
authentication, so you can leave it out of the
whole year.

The light is completely wireless and the only
hidden connection behind a rubber stamp is the
micro USB port to charge the Arlo battery. The
battery is removable and compatible with Arlo Pro
2 security cameras so that you can switch them
around, or charge two batteries at the same time,
using the Arlo Pro Charging Station Accessory
(available separately).

The mounting bracket uses a standard screw
fittings, such as you find on each camera's
mount, and is made of metal with a ball and
socket joint so that you can point to the light
where you want it. You can select spotlight, or
flood lights within the app, so it is useful to
be able to physically direct the beam.

Installation and use
The battery is completely charged, so that you
can load it, press the sync button and use your
phone to see it and connect it to the bridge.
There is no current / off switch on the light, so
you have to use the app to turn it on and choose
the way you want it to work.

If you also have Arlo Pro 2 cameras, you can go
deeper into the app and ask one device to
activate the other. It's a bit more complicated,
but if you're familiar with the concept of If
It's That (IFTT), then you will get it soon.
