What is Animation?

• Animation is a process in which images are used
  to bring the illusion of motion by the rapid
  movement of all the images in a sequence.
• Animations can be recorded in different formats.
  Some recording would be videotapes, flip books,
  motion picture films or on digital media and some
  of the formats in which it is stored are digital
  video.

Traditional Animation

• In Traditional animation, pictures are drawn on
  transparent acetate sheets called photographed by
  keeping them against a background.
• It is taken frame by frame which is slightly
  different than the other.

Stop Motion Animation

• This type of animation refers to using a
  real-world object and physically manipulating
  them to create the illusion of movement.
• Here also the same process of the frame by frame
  photography is used.
• There are different types of stop motion
  animation and usually named after the material
  used.
• This kind of animation is time taking and less
  expensive.

Computer Animation

• These animations made via the use of computers
  and software.
• It is divided into two segments-

• 2D Animation Animations like this refer to the
  manipulation of images and 2d vector graphics.
• The process involves techniques like traditional
  animation, rotoscopy, onion skinning and
  interpolated morphing.

• 3D Animation This animation refers to creating
  3-dimensional graphics.
• The animator gets a rigged model and works to
  create the illusion of movement.
