Title: Seychelles Holidays at Coral Strand
1 Seychelles Holidays Coral Strand Hotel
Most of the Coral Strand Hotel guests are
interested in Seychelles holidays and
traditions. Its not surprisingly this exotic
country has a rich culture and a lot of bright
holidays. Thats why we decided to tell you
about it in our presentation.
2Christmas Majority of Creoles are Catholic, and
many religious holidays are declared national
public holidays. The most important of them is
Christmas, traditionally celebrated on December
25th. On Christmas Eve people go to the church
for confession. Temples are crowded on the day of
the feast when the mass is served. An
obligatory Christmas tradition is family dinner,
starting with prayer and the breaking of
consecrated bread.
3 New year Another favourite national holiday is,
of course, New Year. It is celebrated on the
islands on January 1st. Local customs of the
celebration are similar to European but adjusted
for the natural conditions of the tropics. For
example, instead of a Christmas tree, people
decorate palms and acacias. For decorating houses
and outfits, they use flower garlands. At
midnight, the sky over the paradise islands will
surely be lit by colourful fireworks. Official
holidays are both January 1 and 2.
4Labor Day As many people around the world
Seychellois celebrate international Labor Day.
Such mass solidarity of local residents with
the working people of the entire planet is
explained by the recent socialist past of the
republic. Now the political colouring of folk
festivals has practically disappeared, but on May
1st it still remains a state day off.
5Liberation Day In 1976, the islands ceased to be
a British colony and turned into a republic. A
year after the parliamentary elections, a coup
d'etat occurred in the country and the socialists
came to power. Since June 5th, the archipelago
has been celebrated as Liberation Day.
6Day of National Reconciliation For almost 14
years, a one-party system remained in the
country, and President France-Albert Rene has
steadily led the state. In 1991, he agreed to
hold free elections, and two years later, on June
18th, a new democratic constitution was adopted.
This event went down in history as the Day of
National Reconciliation and is always celebrated
in Seychelles, especially solemnly. On the day
of the festival, parades are held, the president
gives a speech, organizes musical shows and
exhibitions of natural flowers.
7Easter Each year the Easter date falls on
different Sundays in March, April or May. A
Good Friday preceding the Feast of the
Resurrection of Christ is also a non-working day
in Seychelles.
8Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ In the
entire Catholic world, it is customary to
solemnly celebrate the first Thursday after the
Trinity - the feast of the Body and Blood of
Christ. There is such a tradition in Seychelles.
On this day, the sacrament of the Eucharist,
the rite of communion with wine and bread, which
symbolize the blood and flesh of Jesus Christ,
acquires special significance for believers. A
must-have holiday action is a colourful
procession through the streets.
9Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary On August
15th, La Digue becomes the main centre of
cultural and religious life in the country. The
events held on this island annually are dedicated
to a major church holiday - the Assumption of the
Blessed Virgin Mary.
10All Saints Day Another holiday, celebrated on
the first of November, is also related to the
commemoration of the dead, - All Saints Day.
Celebrating it, the islanders pay tribute to
their ancestors and remember the deceased loved
ones.
11Conception Day of the Virgin Mary Winter
holidays in Seychelles begin with the Immaculate
Conception Day of the Virgin Mary. Solemn
services in honour of the mother of Jesus Christ
are usually held on December 8th. The essence
of this Catholic holiday is to glorify the moral
purity of the Virgin and recognize her as sinless.
