What do employers not want to see on a resume?
2
  • A famous quote by Andrew Gran You never get a
second chance to make a first impression.
  • Grammatical errors
  • Excess white space on your resume
  • Use of elaborate colors and fonts
  • Use of the same verb twice at the beginning of a
    new phrase
  • Unclear sentences.
  • The first and most important step in any job
search is always the submission of a CV. Whether
youre starting a brand new career or youre
getting back on the job market, your resume can
make or break your job search.
  • Your resume is the face of your application,
and it is your first impression to recruiters and
hiring managers, so it has to be attractive to
ensure that you will be remembered and considered
    for the job.

3
  • Recruiters have to get through thousands of
resumes in a short time. As per the study
conducted by job-matching service, The Ladders
revealed that recruiters spend just six seconds
reviewing a resume before deciding whether or not
a candidate is ideal for the job they are trying
to fill. This means your resume should be
formatted in such a way that it will create a
lasting impression on the hiring manager within
    that 6 seconds.
  • What to do they look at during those brief six
    seconds?
  • Employers spent around 80 percent of that time on
particular data points such as name, education,
    current title/company, previous title/company,
previous position start and end dates, current
position start and end dates. So that little
piece of paper needs to stop them in their
    tracks.
  • What is exactly you should do to turn your resume
from an autobiography that no one finishes to a
lean, to efficient 1-pager that lands you
interviews right and left what do employers
dont want to see in resume..?

4
  • Answer is- Anything that doesnt help them
towards that goal or that complicates the
    process, such as
  • They do not want to see a messy and untidy
    resume.
  • This is a real turn off for recruiters because
they cannot find the information they want
quickly. The best approach is to be as clear and
concise as possible. Mention your name, present
position and then relevant experience by
mentioning the posts you have held. Make sure you
put in start and finishing dates and use bullet
points to mention responsibilities and main
    achievements.
  •
  • Objective
  • Todays recruiters and hiring managers are almost
unanimously opposed to including an objective in
resume. If you applied its already obvious you
want the job, except if you're in a unique
    situation, such as changing industries
completely, it may be useful to include a brief
    summary.
  • Anything that doesnt directly relate to the
    applied job
  • When you apply for a specific job, pay attention
to what the responsibilities and requirements
are. If each bullet point on your resume cant
directly relate to something from that job
posting, its best to leave it out.

5
  • Outdated Skills
  • Youre expected to know how to use Microsoft
Word, so theres no point in writing it in your
skills section. Instead, if youre applying to
jobs in tech, focus on computer languages,
programs, and apps you know that can truly set
you apart in an applicant pool.
  • Generic or Irrelevant Skills
  • Generic or vague skills like good communicator
and problem-solving dont tell the employer
anything about you. listing such skills may hurt
your candidacy, so ensure that the skills you
list are relevant to the role at hand.
  • Dont Leave Gaps
  • Unaddressed employment gaps will cause employers
to wonder, and unfortunately, theyll probably
draw some not-so-favorable conclusions about you.
Instead of trying to sneak your employment gap by
prospective employers, fill it with volunteer
opportunities, consulting work, and other side
    projects.
  • Use an unprofessional and outdated email domain
  • When your email address is "soccergrl0721_at_yahoo.c
om, Then it can be a red flag for you, especially
for tech-savvy companies. There's a lot you can
tell about a person from their email address, and
you don't want this to be how the recruiters find
out you like soccer. Create a professional email
address with Gmail and make it your first and
    last name.

6
  • References
  • Employers will not ask for reference details
until the offer stage, so theres no need to
waste space on your CV by including the names and
    addresses of previous managers.
  • Cliché or Vague Phrases
  • Calling yourself results-driven or a team
player really doesnt tell a potential employer
much at this point. Save yourself space and use
specific examples to prove that you are these
    things.
  • Full paragraphs
  • Each previous role you list should have three or
four bullet points, explaining your position,
    your responsibilities, and your impact.

7
  • Personal information
  • It is a waste of space waste of companys time
unless they are somehow relevant to the position
youre seeking. Dont offer up too much personal
information such as hobbies interests section, or
    irrelevant work experience
  • Summary
  • Nowadays most companies are using applicant
tracking software to make the initial selection
and they do that in a split second! So, you have
to aware of what are they looking for and what
should you avoid mentioning. You need to endeavor
and get inside the typical recruiters mindset,
which will reflect what is in the job
    description.
  • In the end, what recruiters and hiring managers
want from a résumé is matters a lot. After all,
theyre the target audience. If you succeed, you
    can enormously improve your resume.
