About NLGJA National Convention

• The NLGJA National Convention is the premier
  network of LGBTQ media professionals and all
  dedicated to the highest journalistic standards
  in the coverage of LGBTQ issues which provides
  the attendees with the opportunity to join more
  than 350 journalists, news executives,
  communications professionals and educators.

About NLGJA

• Founded in 1990, NLGJA is an organization of
  journalists, media professionals, educators and
  students working from within the news industry to
  foster fair and accurate coverage of LGBTQ
  issues. NLGJA opposes all forms of workplace bias
  and provides professional development to its
  members.
• Mission and History
• In April 1989, the American Society of Newspaper
  Editors (ASNE) mandated that ASNE conduct its
  first ever survey of LGBT journalists in American
  newspapers. In April 1990, Roy Aarons presented
  the results of the landmark survey, Alternatives
  Gays and Lesbians in the Newsroom, at ASNEs
  national convention in Washington, D.C. and
  simultaneously came out publicly.
• National Board of Directors
• At the national level, NLGJA is led by a board of
  directors that reflects the organizations
  geographic and professional diversity.

NLGJA Leadership Elections

• NLGJA The Association of LGBTQ Journalists is a
  national organization with over 20 local,
  regional and scholastic chapters throughout the
  United States. NLGJA relies on the hard work of
  dedicated volunteers who fill leadership
  positions at both the national and chapter level
  in order to advance and promote our mission of
  ensuring fair and accurate coverage of LGBTQ
  issues and people in media.
