Title: Unit4 - Getting the right balance
1(No Transcript)
2International Women's Day (March 8th 2019) is a
global day celebrating the social, economic,
cultural and political achievements of women. The
day also marks a call to action for accelerating
gender equality. Gloria Steinem, world-renowned
feminist, journalist and activist once explained,
"The story of women's struggle for equality
belongs to no single feminist nor to any one
organization but to the collective efforts of all
who care about human rights." We agree with
Gloria collective action and shared ownership
for driving gender equality is essential if we
are to build a better, more balanced world. To
quote this fantastic site, balance is not a
women's issue, it's a business issue. The race is
on for the gender-balanced boardroom, a
gender-balanced government, gender-balanced media
coverage, a gender-balance of employees, more
gender-balance in wealth, gender-balanced sports
coverage and so on.
3It does not matter whether we are diverse in age,
sex, race, religion, introverts or extroverts,
what brings us together is the passion to be good
at what we do, to learn from each other, enhance
our skills, share experiences and knowledge and
to grow as individuals and teams. We need people
around us who think differently to us and who
challenge us in ways we would not have thought of
ourselves. We should all be routinely questioning
and challenging what we see and hear, rather than
just accepting that this is how we always think
about or do something. As a result, a group with
a high degree of diversity will naturally instill
greater confidence and understanding while
lessening prejudices and reservations. This in
turn creates a unique environment, fostering
superior collaboration and exchange of ideas,
goals and aspirations. Quite simply greater
diversity leads to greater creativity,
inspiration and innovation. So in our view,
gender balance and diversity are essential for
economies and communities to thrive. And thats
why we support our own Womens Network to make a
positive difference for Unit4.
4- Our three areas of focus are around
- increasing awareness of imbalance and biases with
everyone in the company - stimulating change/improvement and challenging
the status quo within the company - supporting each other by connecting to share
experience, ideas and knowledge
