Title: Lesser Known Facts About Libra
1Lesser-known facts about Libra you might not have
known!
2Libra is the seventh sign in the zodiac which
represents the period between September 22 to
October 23. The symbol associated with this sign
is a balance scale which is said to further
represent truth and justice. In some places,
Libra is also represented by a woman holding a
balance scale.Libra is one of the four cardinal
signs and one of the three air element signs in
the zodiac, making the people born under this
birth sign extremely idealistic. While you will
find a lot of interesting facts about the Libra
zodiac sign all across the internet, it is
unlikely that you have come across all of them.
In this post, we attempted to share with you some
of the lesser-known facts about this zodiac sign.
Some of these might be something that you already
know but never noticed. We hope you have fun
finding these.
31. Libra is the only astrological sign that has
no mythological roots. While this statement is
not entirely true, it is not entirely false
either. Pretty much all the other eleven
astrological signs have their roots in the
mythology of some civilization. For example, Leo
has its roots in Egyptian and Greek mythology in
which it is associated with a goddess and the
Nemean lion respectively. However, most people
believe that Libra has its roots in the Roman
civilization. The reason why we said this
statement is not entirely true is that some
people associate the Libra sign with the goddess
Astrea. They believe that Zeus gave her a scale
of justice which eventually went on to become the
Libra sign.2. Libra is the only astrological
sign that is not represented by a living
creature. This again is another grey statement
since some people consider the Libra sign to be
represented by a lady carrying a balance scale.
However, we can all agree that the majority of
people consider just the scale as the symbol of
the Libra sign. We are sure you never thought of
this one. The other signs in the zodiac are
either represented by an animal, a mythological
creature or humans.
43. The word Libra can be pronounced both as
Lee-bra and Ly-bra. This is a rather
controversial fact that might get on the nerves
of some people. While it is generally pronounced
as Lee-bra, the World Book Encyclopedia (Field
Enterprises Educational Corporation) suggests
that the correct way of pronouncing the word is,
in fact, Ly-bra, the way we pronounce the word
library or lion. The American Heritage
Dictionary of the English Language (Houghton
Mifflin Company) also deems Ly-bra to be a
correct pronunciation, however, it also suggests
that both Ly-bra and Lee-bra are correct.4.
Libra is used as a unit of measurement. Dont
believe us? Have you wondered what the lb
representing a pound stands for? Ah-ha!
Generally, when people write or see the unit lb,
they quickly articulate it as pound without
giving it a second thought. After all, this is
how we (people not using kgs) have been measuring
weights since we first measured our body weight.
This is second nature to us. We dont think twice
before using this unit. It must be clarified here
that lb does not actually stand for libra. You
can not say youre 120 libras when asked about
your weight. You still have to articulate it as
pounds. Lb is only a derivation of the word Libra
which represents a balance scale. It is in
deference to the word and nothing more.
