2HISTROY OF SBC
- Robert Bosch has played a role in many
innovations. - This include the first electronically controlled
antilock brakeing system (ABS) in 1978, the
traction control system (TCS) in 1987, and the
mass production of Electronic stability program
(ESP) in 1995. - The company also helped Mercedes-Benz develop the
most technologically advanced system in
production the electro hydrolic rake(EHB)also
known as SENSONTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL(SBC)
3Working of BRAKE
- We step on brake pedal.
- The plunger is pushed into the master cylinder.
- Hydrolic fluid is forced through a series of
tubes to the breaking units. - Brake shoe in drum brake and caipers in disk
brake are pushed aginst dru and piston, causing
wheel to stop.
4What is brake control system ?
- Portable devices for preventing unwanted movement
of vehicles, and It is used for slowing or
stopping a moving vehicle, wheel, axle, or to
prevent its motion, most often accomplished by
means of friction, to prevent or restrain its
movement called brakes. - brake band - a band that can be tightened around
a shaft to stop its rotation. - A brake controller is an electronic device that
regulates the electric trailer brakes(electric
friction brake). It allows the driver to activate
and monitor trailer brake activity from the cab
of the vehicle.
5What is SENSOTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL?
- Sensotronic Brake Control is an innovative
electronically controlled brake system that is
faster and more precise then the conventional
breaking system - With sensotronic brake control system electric
signals are used to pass the drivers braking
commands onto a microcomputer which process
various sensor signals simultaneously and,
depending on the particular driving situation,
calculates the optimum brake pressure for each
wheel.
6Difference between sensotronic and conventional
brake control
SENSOTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL CONVENTIONAL BRAKE CONTROL
The system employs a travel sensor and a pressure sensor at the pedal to measure the speed and force of the driver's command. The control unit processes this information and generates the control signals for the wheel pressure modulators. Normally, the master brake cylinder is detached from the brake circuit. Conventional brakes consist of a basic hydraulic system which sends fluid to each wheel when the brake pedal is applied. This system utilizes a combination of mechanical components to increase the force on the drums or rotors when you press the brake pedal to activate the brakes, bringing the vehicle to a stop.

8COMPONENTS AND FEATUERS OF SBC
- MICROCOMPUTER-This system calculates the braking
force for each wheel individually. - HIGH PRESSURE ACCUMULATOR-High pressure
accumulator contains the brake fulid which flows
into the system - HYDROLIC UNIT-They meter the brake pressure
accordings to requirements and pass it to the
brakes. - WHEEL SPEED SENSOR-Generating signals
representative of the wheel-speed - EMERGENCY BRAKING-Recoginzes the drivers rapid
movment from the accelerator onto the brake
pedal. - COMFORTS-Provides comfort particularly during
sharp deceleration or when the anti-lock braking
system is operational. - BRAKING IN CORNERS-SBC offers the possibility of
assigning brake force in way appropriste to the
situation.
9FUTURE APPLICATIONS
- The advent of electronics in brake technology
opens up new and promising opportunities in the
disciplines of safety and comfort.By means of SBC
we have also moved a considerable way closer to
the realization of long-term objective, namely to
be able to automatically guide the cars of the
future along the roads with the aid of video
cameras, proximity rador and advanced telematics. - Its already plan to implement in upcoming cars
10DEMERITS OF SBC
- COST-increases due to electronic components.
- ASSEMBLING-slight complex assembling.
- DIFFICULT FOR MAINTENANCE-prone to environment
conditions.
11conclusion
- With reference to the advantage and disadvantage
it is concluded that the place of conventional
brake system in the future. - One of the most disadvantage that is its higher
cost due to the electronic components will get
reduced after the adaptation of this system by
all automobile companies. Also the maintenance of
the electronics component will be easy when we
shall get familiar with this system
