2HOW TO RECOVER FROM TORN MENISCUS?
The meniscus tear or the Torn meniscus can be
very painful. It can also affect and limit your
mobility of the knee joint, the first thing after
the meniscus injury that is done is to regain the
function and reduce pain, and the key to end the
pain and beginning the function is to follow all
the instructions given by the doctor for early
recovery. Some people have minor tear that can
heal without surgery but in severe cases surgery
is needed to repair the damage. Here are some of
the tabs that might help you to recover faster
from a torn meniscus.
1) R.I.C.E during meniscus tear-
R.I.C.E stands for rest, icing, compression and
elevation. For any minor meniscus tear surgery is
not needed either the doctor prescribe R I C E
- Rest the knee, this is usually done to avoid any
further injury or any injury that may lead to
serious injury. - Putting ice or cold pack on the knee for 20
minutes several times in a day, helps in reducing
pain.
3- Compression should be applied by wearing bandage
or brace, this helps the knee to be stable. - Elevation of the knee should be done while
resting or while applying ice on it, this helps
in reducing the swelling of the knee.
42) Keep brace on the place-Â If there is a
surgery to repair torn meniscus you will be
provided with a bandage and the brace on the knee
joint, it's very important to keep the knee joint
stable, always consider brace to be on its place
as it will help in the compression of the knee
joint and provide stability to the torn meniscus.
3) Try over the counter pain relievers-Â During
the recovery period from the torn meniscus non
steroidal anti inflammatory drugs are given to
release pain. These drugs also helps in reducing
swelling, over the counter non steroidal
anti-inflammatory drugs include Ibuprofen and
naproxen.Â
4) Dont panic-Â Recovering from the meniscus tear
surgery requires time and patience, it's very
important to give time to yourself after surgery,
do not rush back to the any kind of activities
that can create stress to the joint because this
can delay the recovery process and can cause even
more harm.
5) Rehabilitation-Â Rehabilitation and physical
exercises play a major role as a part of
recovery, initially exercises are prescribed that
helps in improving range of motion of the knee,
after the knee heels strengthening exercises will
be given. These exercises are the most critical
path of recovery so it's very important to
complete your rehabilitation and the exercises
routine prescribed by the therapist.
56) Start slow-Â Once you will start feeling a bit
better its best to start slow and a great option
to get back to your normal routine slowly,
because over performing any kind of activity or
even walking more can lead to more severe injury
after the surgery.
It's better to keep all the follow up
appointments to track your further process,
normal recovery time from surgery can range from
3 weeks to 3 months, recovery time also depends
upon the nature of the injury the type of surgery
anda location of the torn meniscus.
