Title: Recycle E-Waste
1RECYCLE
E-WASTE
2Introduction
According to the research, 99 percent of
electronics are converted into e-waste within
six months, and it becomes the main reason for
mounting the stuff in the landfills. It has also
been estimated that if the electronic waste is
left untreated or keeps increasing at the same
rate, then the annual pile-up of this could
double by the year 2050.
3Where Old Devices go
when we Dispose
Carelessly? Most of the time, your end-of-life
equipment goes to landfills directly. According
to a report, only 20 of the electronics are
discarded and recycled properly in developing
countries. Whereas in developed countries such
as the EU, which is considered one of the
worlds key e-waste organisers, only 35 percent
of the discarded electronics are organised and
recycled through proper channels
4IT Pollutes Soil and
Groundwater Almost all electronics, including
computers, laptops, and tablets, contain
hazardous substances as their components such as
Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Beryllium, Lithium,
Polyvinyl Chloride, and Chromium. When disposed
of directly into landfills, these chemicals
pollute the soil, water, and air.
5Wastage of
- Natural Resources
- Improper computer disposal not only disrupts the
environment but also wastes the natural materials
that are used in the composition of electronic
devices, such as Gold, Silver, Platinum, Copper,
Aluminium, Glass, and Plastic. Therefore,
electronic recycling is recommended for it brings
the materials back in use. Thus, proper
channelising of e-waste can not only reduce the
landfills but also restores precious natural
resources.
6Greenhouse Effect
The dumped electronic wastes become the biggest
cause of greenhouse gases emission, which harm
humans and the habitat of wild and marine life.
Therefore, when a material is restored through
recycling, comparatively, a small number of
greenhouse gases are emitted that would
otherwise have mounted if a completely new
product was produced from the scratch.
