Diagnosis and management of rotator cuff tear.
Before diagnosting the rotator cuff tear medical
history and physical examination of the patient
is done, depending up on the severity there can
be many other provisional diagnosis which can be
made.
  • After discussing the symptoms and the level of
injury physical examination of the shoulder is
    done.
  • The doctor will check whether there is tenderness
in any area or whether there is any deformity.
  • The injured arm will be moved in several
different directions to measure the range of
    motion and muscle strength.
  • Also arm strength will be tested.
  • Past history of any prior shoulder problems will
    be taken.
  • Examination of neck muscles will also be done as
to rule out the exact sight of pain and
    tenderness.

3
Confirmation Tests-
Along with the above examinations there are some
other tests that are done to confirm the
condition-
X-ray- the very first imaging test that will be
done is Xray. As the x-ray does not show the soft
tissue of the shoulder like that rotator cuff,
generally the plain x-ray of the shoulder and
Rotator Cuff looks to be normal and can show a
small bone spur which is the normal finding. The
main reason to do x-ray is to figure out the
reason for the shoulder pain such as arthritis.
4
MRI- An MRI and ultrasound can help to better
observe the soft tissues like rotator cough
tendons and ligaments. Rotator cough dear can
also be easily seen in Mr the size as well as the
location of the tear can be observed, a clear MRI
can give doctor a better idea of how old are new
at is it can also show the quality of rotator
cuff muscles.
Treatment-
If there is any rotator Cuff tear and the joint
is still being used constantly despite increasing
pain, this can lead to further damage. Early
treatment can prevent the symptoms from getting
worst, it will Also help to get back to normal
routine quicker.
The main goal of any treatment is to help
restoring functions and to reduce pain. There are
several treatment options for the treatment of
rotator cuff, and the best treatment for every
person is dependent on some of the points
depending on
  • Age
  • Activity level
  • General health
  • Type of tear

5
Non Surgical Treatment-
Rest - resting and limiting some of the overhead
movements and activities can help to recover and
manage rotator cuff tear.
Activity modification - avoid activities that can
cause shoulder pain and always try to Focus on
work simplification and modification.
Non steroidal Anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's)-
anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen, aspirin,
and naproxen can help to reduce swelling and
pain, which can help to enhance the functional
strength and muscular atrophy of patient.
Physiotherapy - specific exercises are being
suggested to restore movement and strengthening
of shoulder. This exercise program will include
streching exercise as to improve flexibility and
the range of motion of the joint. Strengthening
of muscle that supports the shoulder can help to
relieve pain and prevent further injury.
