Coplu is a self taught artist born in Turkey in
1958. His mother was a weaver and taught him
about figures, the meanings of patterns and the
emotional effectiveness of color
He started college studying mining engineering
but political turmoil in the 80's gave him the
urge to draw for freedom of expression. He
dropped the study of rocks to be an artist. His
early career was as a political cartoonist for
the Turkish Daily News - He received 25 awards in
national and international cartoon competition
and he established a cartoon school Coplu based
in Vancouver- Canada and Antalya-Turkey. He is
represented and his work is exhibited at
galleries around the world. Ode to Art
