Basic Dyes: Advantages & Applications

Description:

Basic dyes are a type of cationic dye that are water-soluble and have a positive charge. They are primarily used for coloring materials that have a negative charge, such as acrylic fibers, silk, wool, and modified polyesters. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

Introduction
Basic dyes are called so since they are salts
organic bases. Basic dyes manufacturers in India.
Basic dyes are called cationic dyes because in
solution basic dye molecule ionizes, causing its
colored component to become an action of
positively charged radical. Basic dyes are used
for dyeing wool, silk and acrylic and mod-acrylic
fibers.

Properties of Basic Dyes
  1. Iconic Nature Cationic
  2. Shade Range Unlimited shade range with high
    tinctoral value, brightness
  3. Solubility Soluble in Water
  4. Leveling Properties Poor Leveling
  5. Affinity Very affinity towards wool, silk and
    acrylic fibre
  6. Fastness Properties Light fastness is poor but
    wet fastness is good
  7. Exhaustion Cationic dyes have a varied rate of
    exhaustion
  8. Reactivity Basic side of the isoelectric points
  9. Application on Cotton Fabric Basic colours are
    not employed on cotton

4
Limitations of Basic Dyes
  1. Poor shade stability
  2. High acid content
  3. Colored backwaters
  4. Very poor light fastness

5
Advantages of Basic Dyes
  1. Moderate substantively.
  2. Relatively economical
  3. Shows good brightness
  4. High Tinctorial strength
  5. Wide shade range
  6. Includes some of the most brilliant synthetic
    dyes.

6
Applications of Basic Dyes
  1. Textile Industry Textile industry for dyeing
    wool, silk, and nylon fibers
  2. Paper Industry Paper industry to color paper and
    paper products
  3. Leather Industry Penetrate deeply into the
leather, providing long-lasting and rich colors
  4. Ink Industry Especially in the production of
colored inks for writing, printing, and artistic
    applications
  5. Biological Staining Biological laboratories for
    staining cells and tissues
  6. Plastics Color plastics, including acrylics and
    modified polyesters
  7. Cosmetics Cosmetics and personal care products
    to provide coloration

Chemical Structure of Basic Dyes
Basic dyes are characterized by their chemical
structure, which typically includes a chromophore
group (responsible for color) and a basic group
(positively charged, which allows them to bind to
negatively charged substrates like fibers).
Here's a general structure and explanation
H N--CH2--Ar--N(CH3)2 CH3
