Spicy Watermelon Pickles I first discovered
watermelon pickles in a canning book from 1965. I
followed the recipe exactly, even including the
recommended addition of red food colouring. The
result was similar to a vinegary maraschino
cherry. These watermelon pickles are completely
different. Salty, spicy, and packed with flavour,
they taste more like a pickled radish. I like to
slice them thinly and serve them as a garnish on
stir-fries or noodle bowls or as an addition to
homemade sushi rolls. Sourdough Devil's Food Cake
This rich chocolate cake uses a sourdough starter
for acidity and flavour. The brown sugar adds a
hint of caramel, however, it is not a very sweet
cake. If you have a sweet tooth, increase the
white sugar. Ive included a recipe for an easy
mousse that I love as a frosting. Its the
ultimate in fudgy chocolatey-ness, but feel free
to serve this cake with your usual frosting or a
simple dusting of icing sugar instead. Pineapple
Tepache Pineapple tepache is a drink made
from the rind and core of pineapples. Fermented
for just a few days, it is a sweet and
probiotic beverage. If left to continue
fermenting for more than 3 weeks, it becomes a
tart pineapple vinegar.
