Set the center link at a length of 26-1/4 inches
on the 4000, 4010, or 4020 Tractor, or 31-1/4
inches on the 4520, 5010 or 5020 T r a c t o r.
Then lengthen or snorten the linR as requlred to
level the chisel plow from front to rear. LIFT
LINKS Adust the length of the lift llnks to
29-3/4 lnches on the 4000, 4010, or 4020 Tractor,
34-7/8 inches on the 4520 Tractor, or 3s-s/4
lnche s on the 5010 or 5020 Tractor. Then use the
adjusting leve r or crank to lengthen or shorten
the link as neces - sary to level the chlsel plow
from slde to side. lt may be necessary to shorten
or lengthen the lift llnks to level the chise1
plow or to give additional working depth or
transport clearance of the chlsel plow.

When the chisel plow is equipped Wlth stabillzer
wheels, the lift link collars or pins should
be ln the float position aa follows On the
4000, 4020, 4520, 5010, or 5020 Tractor, set the
pins on the lift linRs In the upper Role (float
posltlon) to allow movement of the lift links.

b Ope ration
For light draft loads, or when op- erating with
sweeps, locate the se- lector lever in the
Depth (D) po- sition. The depth of operation is
de- termined by the stabilizer wheels.
On the 4010 T raetor, lower the collars on both
lift links 1 inch to the second hole to permit
up-and-down movement (floating) of the lift
links. (See tractor operator's manual.)
To allow the chisel plow to float, pull the
roekshaft control lever all the way back to the
quadrant, to the 'floating action' position.
This re- leases all hydraulic pressure from the
roekshaft, enabling it to vary its up and down
position automatically so the chisel plow can
follow ground contours.
SELECTOR LEVER(CHISELPLOW WITHOUTSTABILIZERWHEELS)
W i t h o u t stabilizer wheels the load- and-
depth control aetuates the r o e k s h a f t
system automatically, regulating chisel plow
working depth over uneven ground and compensat-
ing for the effect of ridges and de- pressions.

LINK COLLARS (CHISE L PLOW WITHOUT STABIMZE R
WHEELS) When the chisel plow is used with- out
stabilizer wheels, set the lift links in the
''no float' position. SELECTOR
LEVER(CHISELPLOW WITH STABILIZER WHEELS) For
heavy draft loads place the s elector lever in
the Load and Depth (LD) position. Adjust the
stabilizer wheels for only light con- tact with
the ground, so the wheels do not interfere with
the operation of the 'Load and Depth'
control. IMPORTANT Do not use the sta- bi lizer
wheels to gouge the depth of operation for heavy
draft loads. The stabilizer wheels are pro-
vided to keep the chisel plow steady when
variations in ground conditions are encountered.
Place the selector lever in the '' Load and
Depth (LD) position.

Release the center link from the transport hook
on the rear of the tractor and drop the center
link hook over the hitch mast ball. Rotate the
center link adjusting arm to lengthen or shorten
the center linR.
Lock the hook and mast ball Jlrmly with the
center liriR latch handle. DETACHING CHISEL

the category 2 or category 3 position, depending
on how the tractor is equipped. Set the
spring-loaded latches on the uik-Coupler in
the released position. Lower the 3-point hitch

ADJUSTING FLAT CUSHION SPRING STANDARDS
STA BIL I Z ER WH E E LS ADJUSTING CRANK
STABLIZER WHEEL
The tension of the springs on flat cushion-spring
standards can be ad- justed to give the desired
amount of standard movement during opera- tion.
Stabilizer w h e e l s are regular equipment on
the 1181 and 1201 Chisel Plows and are available
as special equipment on the 1121, 1141, and 1161
Chisel Plows. Stabilizer w h e e l s steady the
chisel plow in uneven ground conditions. Turn the
adjust- ing cranks to position the wheels. See
page 6. Keep the wheel frame pivot bolts tight.
Tighten the nuts to compress the spring for less
standard movement. Loosen the nuts to extend the
springs for more standard movement.
An average setting is to have one- inch of the
bolt protruding past the end of the nut.
TIRE INFL ATION
Keep tires properly inflated to avoid damage
to tire walls.
IMPORTANT To give the chisel plow stability, of
I springs must be adjusted with the some amount
of compression.
Recommended tire inflation pres- sure is
Tighten the standard bolt at 'A to 300 ft-lbs
torque. Tighten bolts B' ' to 105 ft-lbs torque.
6.70- 15, 4-ply 28 psi 6. 70- 15, 6-ply 40
psi 7. 60- 15, 6-ply -- 36 psi 7. 60-15, 8-ply
48 psi
Keep the standard bolts and the set screw, which
holds the hinge pin, tight.
Equal tire pressure in both tires is necessary
for even tool penetra- tiona low tire will
cause deeper penetration on one side of the ma-
chine than the other.

TOOTH PATTERNS
Two different tooth patterns can be used with
flat cushion-sprtng standards or flat sprlng
standards. Each pattern has advantages under
dtffe rent conditions. These tooth patterns
are illustrated on pages 21 to 27. DIAGONAL
PATTERN
SPMT PATTERN
The split pattern arrangement, as used on all
sises of ehiselplows, has the standards angling
from the front to the rear, in both directions.
In other words, the pattern forms a wedge. This
pattern is recommended when operating in flat
land when the soil 1s extremely hard and dry. The
use of the split pattern, when work- ing under
these conditions, will pro- vide maximum
stability. The split pattern is not recommended
for use on the 100IRC Chisei Plow.
The di a g o n a l pattern arrange- ment, as used
on the 1101, 1121, 1141, 1161, 110IRC, 112IRC, I
I4IRC and 116IRC Chisel Plows has stand - ards
angled from left-to-right, and front-to-rear, as
vtewed from the r e a r of the c h i s e I
plow. ThtS arrangement provides for maximum
traah clearance.
TR ANSPOR TING
When transporting on B highway, keep as tae to
the right as possible. Adjust the litt links on
the 3-jaOint hitch to Increase transjaozt
cLesrsnce when trsnsportlng the m a c h i n e.
Trsnspozt the chisel plow at a sjaeed of no
more than 10 mph.
C AUT ION If it becomes neces- sory to transport
the chisel plow on p u b I i c roods o r
highways, check w ith local and state agencies
regard- ing the r egulotions for transporting
over size equipment and the use of accessory
lights and devices for ade quate warning to

SAF ETY SUGGESTIONS
L UBR ICAT ION
Investigations of thousands of farm accidents
ahow that nearly one- thlrd are caused by
careless uae of machinery. You can make your farm
a safer place to live and work by observing the
following suggestions and those included in your
tractor operator's manual. To avoid lnjury,
alwaya be care tu1 while operating your tractor
and chisel plow. All machtne ry should be
operated only by those who are responsible and
have been delegated to do so. Only one person,
the operator, should be permitted on the tractor
platform whtle tractor and chisel plow are in
operation. Lower the chlsel plow to the ground
or set lt on stands before aervicing. When
transporting the chisel plow on a public road or
highway, tollow safety instructions outlined
under ' 'Transporting."
