Project start and duration September 1, 2001, 36
months.
2Objective of the project
The goal of the POEtic project is the development
of a flexible computational substrate inspired by
the evolutionary, developmental and learning
phases in biological systems.
3POEtic Bio-inspiration
Phylogeny (P) - Evolution
Evolutionary Computation
Ontogeny (O) - Development
Embryonics
Epigenesis (E) - Learning
Spiking NN, Immunotronics

5Expected achievement
The POEtic tissue will be a cellular surface
composed of a variable number of elements, or
cells.
Each cell of the tissue will have the same basic
structure, but will be able to acquire different
functionalities, as "totipotent cells" in living
organisms.
Within such structure, groups of cells will be
able to co-operate to realise a given task,
giving rise to substructures not unlike organs in
living beings.
6Impact
7Action that FET might launch
- Complex Systems
- Bio-inspired Systems
- Beyond living artefacts
