Title: Two Point Perspective
1Yr 7 Graphics
Objective Today you will learn how to construct
an Isometric Drawing. You will be able to recall
the process for drawing a simple Isometric cube
by the end of today's lesson.
What will we be doing today?
All students will be able to describe the
differences between shape and form. They will be
able to describe the different elevations used to
construct a 3rd angle orthographic. Â Most
students will be able to create a simple 3rd
angle orthographic drawing using a drawing frame.
Some students will be able to create a 3rd
angle orthographic drawing without the need of a
drawing frame.
Homework Give an example of how an
orthographic drawing can be used to manufacture
a product.

Orthographic Drawing
Orthographic projection shows complex objects by
doing a 2D drawing of each side to show the main
features. Orthographic drawings usually consist
of a front view, a side view and a plan, but more
views may be shown for complex objects with lots
of detail. A drawing board and parallel motion or
T-square is used to project one view from
another. Orthographic drawing may be done using
first angle projection or third angle projection.
The graphic below shows the differences between
the two

FORM
SHAPE
In graphics we describe a form as a 3D object,
it has Length, Depth and Height
A 2D object does not have height. It is described
in graphics as a shape

Elevations
When architects design buildings they have to
draw 2D drawings to show what the building will
look like from each side. These drawings are
called plans and elevations. The view from the
top is called the plan. The view from the front
and sides are called the elevations.

Bordering Your Sheet Stage 1
Using a drawing board, setup a page of A3 so that
it is square on the board. Carefully add a border
and the title blocks EXACTLY as shown on this
drawing. Make sure that you include all of the
details.
9Yr 7 Graphics
Stage 2 Constructing your Front View
Carefully draw a datum line onto your sheet. All
of you dimensions will be taken from the datum.
WITH CARE draw in a FRONT VIEW of your shape.
Extend all of your construction lines across the
width of your page.

Stage 3 Extending your Vertical Construction
Lines
Extend all of your vertical construction lines to
the top of your page. This will help you to
construct your plan view.
Extend the vertical construction lines upward
toward the top of your page.
11Yr 7 Graphics
Stage 4 Constructing the Plan view
You are now ready to construct your plan view.
Position the plan just above the front view.
Carefully measure your shape and draw in your
horizontal lines.
Carefully measure and draw in your plan view. You
may want to draw in your front view in dark
pencil to make it clearer.

Stage 5 - Projecting your Drawing.
Imagine that there is an imaginary box drawn
around the front view of your shape (seen in red
below). Position a small x where the top left
hand corner of the shape would be positioned.
Put a mark in the top right hand corner of the
front view of your shape.

Stage 6 - Projecting your Drawing.
Using a 45 square. Position the square as shown
in the drawing. MAKE SURE that the base is
positioned exactly horizontal on your page and
draw in a 45 construction line.

Stage 8 - Projecting your Vertical Lines
It is now possible to extend your vertical lines
down from the 45 line and using the horizontal
lines construct the front view of your object.
Project your horizontal line down.

Stage 9 - Adding Hidden Details
Using a sharp pencil draw in any hidden detail
lines that are included on your shape.
Add any hidden detail lines

Stage 10 - Finishing your Orthographic Drawing
Using a fine line pen. With care pen in your
drawing.

Improvement Notes
This did not work very well. Next lesson start
with squared paper and work up to plain white
sheet and drawing boards. Some pupils managed it
but in the main this was well above their ability
levels.
