Simulation and Analysis of Control Loop Timing
Abstract The talk presents two Matlab-based
tools for simulation and analysis of real-time
control systems. The first tool, called TrueTime,
introduces a Simulink blockset for co-simulation
of plant dynamics and real-time scheduling of CPU
and network. This way, the impact of different
scheduling policies on control performance may be
studied. The second tool, called Jitterbug, is
used for evaluation of a quadratic control
performance index under non-ideal timing
conditions. Given a linear plant and a linear
controller, the impact of sampling period,
sampling jitter, input-output delay, delay
jitter, and aborted computations on the
performance index may be computed. The talk also
includes an overview of control loop timing and
compares some results from the different tools.
