Schools all across Birmingham and the surrounding
area give tins and packets of food to BCM. The
food is often presented to a BCM worker

Many Churches also give the food from their
harvest festival celebration to BCM.

At first there is a huge pile of food which needs
to be unpacked and sorted.

Each packet or tin is marked clearly with the
BBE date. This makes sure that the food is
given out while it is still good to eat.

The food is stored on shelves in the BCM resource
centre with the BBE date showing.
This picture was taken in the summer when there
was only one type of food left on the shelves

There are some
people in Birmingham who cant afford food. Some
people are homeless and some families have very
little money to live on.

Some food is used
to feed people who
are homeless. Twice a week homeless men and
women come to our care centre for a hot meal
and a chat.

Some food is used in our hostels. We help people
who are homeless to learn the skills they need to
move into a flat of their own.

out about 212 food parcels every month. A parcel
is 2 or 3 carrier bags of food, depending on how
much food is available.

Who is given the food?
People in need are referred to BCM by churches,
social workers and other care agencies. BCM
tries to help anyone in need no matter where they
are from or what they believe.

help us if the food you donate is in tins,
packets or jars. We cant always sort and give
out fresh food quickly enough. Please check that
any food you give us will be good to eat for at
least another month.
