What is Late Immersion Program

• French Program for Gr 7 students who have no /
  limited knowledge of French
• Students will have 4 cores subjects
  (Math/Science/Social Studies/FLA) taught in
  French.language of LOVE ELA Options
• Ps Ed are taught in English .language of
  business !
• Program that covers the outcomes of the regular
  Programs of Studies using adapted resources
  less vocabulary more pictures
• Great place for students who want a challenge and
  want to try something FUN!

• High Expectations . definition of HIGH could
  vary

  doors.well maybe closet doors

  a phrase student uses often!

  . I love it !
• A willingness to learn and to take risks .. if
  shywe will work on that !
• No need to be a A student but some will be!

HOW DO STUDENTS MANAGE AT THE START OF THE YEAR?
The students begin not knowing much French, and
instructional strategies and materials are
designed with this in mind .... Information is
adapted to make it easier to understand piece
of cake !
Teachers use visual aids, mime, gestures, simple
language, puppets, stories and routines to help
familiarize students with words and concepts.
They will also speak slower ..Teachers act
everything they say so they look RIDICULOUS MOST
OF THE TIME!

HOW DO STUDENTS MANAGE AT THE START OF THE YEAR?
Teachers use words in French similar to English
to insure maximal comprehension. . Eg
Question? Réponse? Conclusion?... and 24 997
other ones.
More time is given to complete homework
assignments to allow time for questions
Extra help is available at lunch time or after
school to ask for more explanations.. Teachers
will help you if you ask .free of charge.

HOW DO STUDENTS MANAGE AT THE END OF GRADE 9?
French Immersion students are mixed in gr 9. In
general, they are equal in language performance
..depends on effort made!
Some will speak, write and comprehend better than
others we are all different after all !
Students can continue their studies in the French
Immersion Program .William Aberhart HS or
Western Canada HS . Students can received a
bilingual certificate after Grade 12
Students can challenge French 20/30 exam at the
beginning of High School

• Late Start on Thursday (10 am)
• Early Dismissal on some Fridays (130)

• Letter of acceptance and further info will be
  sent home Option classes, Bus form, Supply
  list, Picture of the principal to be placed
  beside your bed)
• Open House March 5th .will meet all the
  teachers, eat some food and do some activities
• School Tour for Grade 6 students .in May (Letter
  will be mailed to you in April)
• Opportunity to spend a morning with us in order
  to experience the life of a Late Immersion
