SOME FAMOUS PYRAMIDS
Photographs of two famous square based pyramids
are shown. Work through the tasks below to create
ORTHOGRAPHIC DRAWINGS and a TRUE SHAPE of one
side of the pyramid shown.
TASK 2A - orthographics Complete the ORTHOGRAPHIC
DRAWING of the pyramid by drawing the END
ELEVATION and then the PLAN.

TASK 2B true shape Follow the steps below to
complete the true shape drawing of the sloping
face of the pyramid. Steps 1 and 3 have been
completed.
  • choose a view which shows the sloping surface
    as a single line.
  • project lines at 90O to this surface.
  • draw the datum line at 90O to the projection
    lines.
  • draw the datum line on the plan.
  • take sizes from the datum line on the plan.
  • darken lines to show the true shape of the
    surface.

TASK 2D development Follow the steps below to
complete the DEVELOPMENT of the square based
pyramid. Do not show the base in your drawing.
Steps 1 to 3 have been completed for you.
  • begin with the given vertical line.
  • set your compass to the length of the outside
    edge of your true shape, this is the true length
    of the shape.
  • mark this length on your vertical line.
  • using the top of the line as your centre point,
    draw a circle with radius set to the length of
    this line.
  • set your compass to the length of the base of
    your true shape.
  • mark this size 4 times on the circumference of
    your circle.
  • Complete the development by drawing faint lines
    from these marks to the centre of your circle and
    joining them up round the circumference.
