OUTLINE
  • PODCASTING
  • COMPARISON OF SEARCH ENGINES
  • SPEED
  • NUMBER OF RESULTS
  • FEATURES
  • CONCLUSION

3
Wikipedias results on podcasting
  • Podcasting is the method of distributing
multimedia files, such as audio or video
programs, over the Internet using syndication
feeds, for playback on mobile devices and
    personal computers.

4
PODCASTING AS A TERM
  • The term is a contraction of "broadcasting" and
    "iPod".
  • The editors of the New Oxford American Dictionary
declared "podcasting" the 2005 word of the year,
defining the term as "a digital recording of a
radio broadcast or similar program, made
available on the Internet for downloading to a
    personal audio player"

5
THE HOST
  • The host of a podcast is often called a podcaster
  • Though podcasters' web sites may also offer
direct download or streaming of their content, a
podcast is distinguished from other formats by
its ability to be downloaded automatically using
software capable of reading feeds like RSS or
    Atom.

6
USES
  • Allows individuals to distribute their own "radio
    shows"
  • Distribution of school lessons
  • Official and unofficial audio tours of museums,
  • Conference meeting alerts and updates
  • Distribution of public safety messages by police
    departments

7
COMPARISON OF DIFFERENT SEARCH ENGINES
  • SPEED
  • SEARCH RESULTS
  • FEATURES

8
comparison based on result display speed
  • Only google and yahoo display the time the search
    lasted.
  • This feature is not supported in the other search
engines. But, we could still get the time it
takes them to search a key word from firefox .(it
is displayed in the right bottom side of the
    firefox window.)
  • accordingly, google has been found the fastest of
all in conducting the search for the keyword
podcasting in 0.06 seconds. (0.328seconds as the
    firefox window displayed.)
  • Yahoo comes next in the speed, and altavista,
alltheweb and msn follow, in descending orders.

9
COMPARISON BASED ON THE NUMBER OF SEARCH RESULTS
  • From the five search engines that this
    presentation studied, altavista.com doesnt
display the number of search results.
  • Google with 53,200,000 results have come up as
the greatest number of search result for the
    keyword, podcasting.
  • yahoo (42,200,000), alltheweb(35,500,000) and
    msn(239,963) follow.

10
comparison based on language
  • wikipedia has different articles in 229
    languages,
  • from the search engines, msn and yahoo are in the
leading list with 38 and 37 language system,
    respectively.
  • altavista and alltheweb come next with 36
    languages and google has 35.

11
CONCLUSION
  • At the fields one of the search engines has its
limitations the others have advantage over it,
just as the one with the strength will also have
    a weakness on other parts.
  • Therefore, the things that we failed to get in
one search engine will be on the other, the
features the one failed to support will be found
on the other. So we should not stick to only one
    search engine.

12
  • wikipedia is a very good and accurate source with
the most relevant and to-the-point search
    results.
  • But yet it is not the best place we go to search
    for pictures of our keywords.

13
  • THEREFORE, IF WE ARE USERS OF ONLY ONE SEARCH
ENGINE, WE LOSE THE OPORTUNITY OF GETTING
DIFFERENT FEATURES THAT DIFFERENT SITES COULD
    AFFORD.

14
  • I THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION.
  • (please note that the speed and the search
results of the sites expressed in the
presentation may vary based on different factors.)
