Introduction

• Financial activity is governed by detailed rules
  and a high level integrity.
• Therefore, finance would be impossible without
  ethics.
• As clients we should be able to trust advisors
  and institutions with our investments.

Ethical Organizations

• The Securities Exchange Commissions (SEC) and the
  Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FIRA)
  was formed in order to insure ethical and legal
  financial business practices are being upheld.

Securities Exchange Commission

• Their mission is to protect investors, maintain
  fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and
  facilitate capital formation.
• They oversee the key participants in the
  securities world, including securities exchanges,
  securities brokers and dealers, investment
  advisors, and mutual funds.

Financial Industry Regulatory Authority

• A new self-regulatory organization that is the
  successor to the National Association of
  Securities Dealers (NASD).
• Responsible for regulatory oversight of all
  securities firms that do business with the
  public professional training, testing and
  licensing of registered persons arbitration and
  mediation market regulation and industry
  utilities.

Conclusion

• Though there are organizations enforced to
  regulate ethical financial business practices,
  consumers must rely on the financial advisors to
  be trustworthy and honest.
• Therefore, as consumers we must be aware and
  cautious about the individuals and corporations
  who manage our money.
