Findings

• Systematic differences in team functioning,
  favouring teams in districts where mental health
  and social care services were integrated.
• But service organisation had no evident impact on
  professional or team identification or on
  outcomes for staff in terms of stress or job
  satisfaction.

Social Workers in CMHTs

• Social workers had poorer perceptions of team
  functioning and experienced higher levels of role
  conflict.
• Role conflict was a significant predictor of
  stress and of job dissatisfaction, while role
  clarity promoted job satisfaction.

Integration of CMHT - definitions

• Fully integrated To be fully integrated, a CMHT
  must have
• interagency multidisciplinary staff involving
  health and social services
• single operational management for all staff
  within the team regardless of employing agency
• integrated assessment, care planning and care
  co-ordination
• joint recording and IT systems.

• Multi Agency Teams
• CMHTs which are interagency but have not yet
  achieved full integration.
• Single Agency Teams
• CMHTs which are staffed and managed by a single
  agency. These teams may be multi-disciplinary
  insofar as they contain staff from more than one
  discipline, but teams will be managed and staffed
  by either a social services department or NHS
  trust but not by health and social services
  together.
