Monitoring and Evaluating Restoration Projects
Bernhardt et al. (2005) surveyed over 37,000
river restoration projects in the US We found
that only 10 of project records indicated that
any form of assessment or monitoring occurred.
Most of these 3700 projects were not designed to
evaluate consequences of restoration activities
or to disseminate monitoring results Because
most project records were inadequate to extract
even the most rudimentary information on project
actions and outcomes, it is apparent that many
opportunities to learn from successes and
failures, and thus to improve future practice,
are being lost.
