The TiO2 Nano-sized particles in colloidal
suspension exponentially increase the surface
area of the TiO2 photocatalytic coating providing
self-cleaning and anti-bacterial action in
natural daylight or in common fluorescent indoor
illumination levels.

TiO2 - Titanium Dioxide
Titanium Dioxide is the ninth most common mineral
on earth. TiO2 is used as pigments in paint, in
sunscreens, in skin creams and lotions, as a food
additive and in many other consumer
products. TiO2 is non-toxic, and is classified by
the US FDA as GRAS or Generally Regarded as
Safe. Titanium Dioxide is a photocatalyst.

What is a photocatalyst?
UVA wavelength is 320-400 nm Visible light is
400-700 nm
Tio2 when energized by UVA produces two oxidizing
agents OH radical and O2 Superoxide
anion

UVA at the 388 nm wavelength drives the TiO2
photocatalytic reaction. BIOSHIELD technology
shifts bluelight below 500 nm down (blueshift)
and UVA below 388 nm up (redshift) resulting in
the most photoactive product on the market which
can perform in low light levels as low as 12
footcandles with no doping

What does the primer do?
  • Assures adhesion to the substrate
  • Reflects the UV and visible light back to the
    topcoat to enhance photocatalytic reaction
  • Protects substrates from oxidation

The most important oxidizer in the world
OH radical
BIOSHIELD treated surfaces, in the presence of
fluorescent lighting or reflected and direct
sunlight, produce superoxides and OH radicals.
These will oxidize any organic soil, volatile
organic compounds or microbes contacting the
surface. The result is a clean and sanitized
surface. Complete oxidation turns these
pollutants into CO2 and water vapour.

MICROBES
Too small to see bacteria, fungi, viruses
Pathological microbes include Listeria, MSRA,
Ecoli, Salmonella, HIV, Swine Flu, SARS

the growth of any of these harmful microbes that

oxidize any organic substance to which it is

CLEAN for HYGIENE
LOOKS CLEAN DOES NOT MEAN CLEAN OR HEALTHY What
you cannot see can hurt you. Any surface with
repeated hand contact has million of microbes on
it and not all of them are harmless.

SELF-CLEANING SURFACE
BIOSHIELD decomposes any organic dirt, grime,
oils or VOCs that land on or near the
surface. BIOSHIELD transforms these soils into
water vapour and CO2. Cosmetically clean is not
hygienically clean.

INDOOR AIR QUALITY
VOCs are a Major Indoor Health Problem
Volatile Organic Compounds are in the air we
breath because they are present in virtually all
the consumer products we use in the home today.
VOCs come from hair sprays, perfumes,
deodorizers, air fresheners, carpets, new
furniture, paints, glues,and everyday cleaning
products. Other organic contaminants come from
cooking, pet dander, dust mites and from
pollution already in outdoor air from autos and
industry.
TiO2 Coatings will remove VOCs from the air that
you breath. Indoor air quality is important

Where do they come from?
Outdoor air is quite low in VOC contamination.
This pollution is an indoor air quality issue
caused by the consumer products we all use daily
paints, caulking, carpets, hair sprays,
deodorizers, air fresheners, polishes, waxes,
cleaners, dry cleaning, acoustical tiles, fabric
softeners, insect repellents ..
2010, January 1 is the new regulation date
phase2 No product can be made that exceeds the
new standard but old can be sold for 12 months
consumer can use untill it is gone. The standards
are being changed globally in UK, USA and Canada.
Consumer will see 2010 compliant. Low VOCs
still means nothing. Breathing VOCs is bad for
your health. BIOSHIELD can eliminate VOCs in your
home environment.
