• Excessive bail shall not be required, nor
  excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual
  punishment
• Ex Cannot be tortured.

What is bail?

• Initial appearance the first time an arrested
  person sees a judge before a trial.
• Judge may grant bail money or property put up
  by the accused to allow release from jail before
  trial.
• Helps ensure the accused will return for trial

What is bond?

• Bond like bail. When a company loans you bail
  money for a fee.

What is cruel and unusual?

• Supreme Court says it depends on the standards of
  the day
• Some argue Death Penalty falls under cruel and
  unusual.
