Installation

• Whats needed
• Perl
• www.activestate.com
• Firedaemon
• To be able to run MRTG as a service at startup
• www.firedaemon.com
• Lite can only run one instance
• Will need Pro to run two or more instances

• SNMP enabled on device to be monitored

Installation

• Unzip distribution
• Recommend unzipping to the top level directory on
  the desired drive
• ie e\mrtg-2.10.5
• No software build is necessary, only one EXE file
  is needed and its part of the distribution.

Initial Configuration

• Use cfgmaker to generate config file(s)
• Located in the \bin directory
• Instructions and options
• http//people.ee.ethz.ch/oetiker/webtools/mrtg/nt

• Will probably need to edit config file(s) to
  remove unwanted interfaces

• Builds webpages based on the config file
• Probably will not be what you want

Things to Keep in Mind

• SNMP must be enabled on the remote device
• To run multiple instances of FireDaemon you will
  need to purchase the Pro version - 25.00
• You can swap the input and output stats by using
  a - in front of the ???? In the config file

Things to Keep in Mind

• If you use the core interface for an atm
  connection the stats will not reflect ATM video
  calls using the interface on the core ATM
  switch will (for sure on Marconi not sure on
  Cisco)
• Indexmaker will probably not give you the results
  you want

Things to Keep in Mind

• MRTG also runs on Unix/Linux
• Can be used to monitor other things
• Anything that supports could be monitored
• Polling interval is set at 5 minutes. Can be
  increased but can not be set lower.
